Tutoring is one of the projects carried on by some FTA members. When tutoring, the student 'iteacherw and the Npupilw both benefit from the enlightening experience. The person being tutored may be so benefited that he rises as much as two grade levels a quarter if he so desires. The tutor, on the other hand, is meeting first hand the problems of conveying the subject matter to the student and recognizing other problems involved in teaching. I1 TUTORS By making use of source material, tutors i Larry Jakubsen and Joyce Nissley are trying to simplify and explain a difficult assignment to a student. Thr 1957 Building Trades house was the most ambitious undertaking so far. For several years Nlr It-onard Wilson has his boys meeting new probltms as they build a house from the foun- da ion to the last hit of trim. Qt v - ixfi. X 'F'-and in Building Trades is the course which provides eighteen junior and senior boys with the best of practical experience in construction work. Aside from a few things which have to be done by professionals lsuch as furnace and plumbing installationl. the boys build a complete house each year. Land and materials are provided by the school board and the house is sold to the highest bidder. Experience is provided in cement work, in general construction, in plastering. and in cabinet work. Some of the boys get extra training in cabinet making from one of the local firms. The boys comprising the group are chosen by Mr. Wilson. They spend each school- day morning working on the house and its accompanying problems, returning to CHS for fourth hour. ln addition to this vocations work. they are in social studies classes, and the juniors are also in English classes. 0 O Front row: ,lack Andresen.
