LORAS Clinton made a slow start this year by losing to Loras Academy of Dubuque, I9-O. The Kings had a little trouble stopping the Loras backs. Even though the boys were behind all the way, they never gave up. WEST ROCKFORD The first home game of the season was a huge success as Clinton defeated West Rockford I4-7. In the second quarter both touchdowns were made by Ken Stubblefield, the extra points, by Herb Marske. MCKINLEY The third game brought a second victory to the Kings by a 33-7 margin over McKinley of Cedar Rapids. Ken Stubblefield, back, and Ed Heinsen, end, each made two touchdowns. Dick Bartels, quarterback, also made another tally. DAVENPORT Clinton, fired up for its homecoming, played hard all the way, but was stunned by the power- ful offense which they encountered. Clinton, nev- er letting up, scored twice in the final quarter to make the score 40-13. FRANKLIN Striking in the early moments of the game on a 56-yard run by Ken Stubblefield, the Kings were able to hold the lead and to increase it in the fourth quarter for a I3-O conference win over Franklin. ROCK ISLAND Rock Island iust managed to match the power- ful attack thrown at them by a greatly improved River Kings team. Heavily favored to win, the Rocks returned home with a 23 game winning streak snapped. The final score was 20-20. IOWA CITY The River Kings traveled to Iowa City's Home- coming destined to end another long winning streak. Iowa City, with I3 straight victories under their belts, couIdn't move Clinton's strong de- fensive Iine. Clinton had trouble also, and the final score was O-O. DUBUQUE Leading at half-time 3-0, the River Kings fin- ished the game with a score of 15-0, giving them second place in the MVC. 92 :JY-.
