Young And Old Spectrum Of Life Joseph Michael Segriff . ... A Backstairs Poet hen you are young, the fountain of youth runs wildly through the rampant rivers of your soul. You envision life as a spectrum of challenges. Love, hope, freedom, comraderie and friendship — these qualities are part of the spectrum of life. When you are young, the soft music of memoiy has yet to sound that special note. For life maintains a faster beat and the rhythm of the heart has yet to sing of romance. When you are young, you are in love with your youth. As the future bestows its blessings upon your life, your eyes gaze forward to search for bright horizons; and through the gentle morning mist of youth the horizon reflects back to you your dreams, your aspirations ... You are still young, but already you've begun to realize that time will not wait for your dreams to become truth; time will not wait for the coming of your horizon. You are still young, but springtime has fallen into summer and the summer is slowly giving way to fall. You are getting older and the fountain of youth that was once part of the rampant rivers of your soul is no longer wild, no longer able to maintain its fast pace. The horizon approaches and soon the spectrum of youth will give way to the maturity of age. When you are older, your dreams shall float upon the bright smile that calmly rests within your eyes. The joy within your soul shall give your laughter new strength. Courage, patience, unselfishness, kindness and warmth are qualities you will not surrender. When you are older, you come to appreciate the blessings you've received while traveling upon life's rough terrain. Youth and age, sunshine and moonlight, innocence and widsom are all part of the spectrum of life. When you are older, your spirit shall sing forth a melody of triumph. Young and old, the spectrum of life still sounds so sweet, so very genuine . ..
