On behalf of all the College Family I am honored and pleased to extend to you our heartiest congratulations upon the success you have achieved during your Clinton Community College experience. As you move from this experience to a new career or continue your pursuit of higher education we remind you that we stand ready to offer not only our encourage- ment and best wishes but also our help as you may deem it necessary. We believe that you will be successful in your new pursuits and wish for you that each success will be satisfying and rewarding. [j sdicution Dr. Alfred B. Light, a Plattsburgh native, attended M.A.I. and completed his B.S. degree at Plattsburgh State University College. He received his master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his doctorate at Pennsylvania State University. President Light has held many positions in higher education, making numerous contributions to the field. He was a member of the teaching faculty and an ad- ministrator at Plattsburgh State before being selected as the Vice-President of Adiron- dack Community College in Glens Falls where he served with distinction from 1969 to 1971. In 1971, Dr. Light was appointed as the second President of Clinton and has cheerfully worked with many students in this capacity. Under his leadership, our college has increased its student population many times and has witnessed the growth of new programs in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Criminal Justice, and numerous certificate opportunities to meet the needs of Clinton County residents. Dr. Light had the honor of serving as President when the first class graduated in 1971 and he will preside over the graduation ceremonies before his retirement, when the class of 1986 receive their degrees on May 24th. A marked improvement in college facilities has taken place under his direction. Complete renovations of the classrooms and faculty offices was accomplished; and more importantly, this last year, Dr. Light has worked with the Board of Trustees in finalizing their approval for the construction of a new gym, stage and swimming pool complex. Both Dr. Light and his wife, Eddie, have been dedicated parents, and all six of their children, Steve, Scott, John, Debbie, Lisa and Andy, have contributed to the life of our community. It is with special pleasure that the staff of “Horizon” dedicate this book to the man who has left such a positive mark on Clinton Community College, ALFRED B. LIGHT. We, the students at Clinton, wish you and your family the best of health, happiness and good fortune in your well deserved retirement. 6 Dr. Alfred B. Light President Clinton Community College Board of Trustees Mark Barie, Harold Brohinsky, Margaret Kennedy, Nina Coolidge, Jerry Kelly, Randall Beach, Shirley Bossick Seated: Margaret Kennedy, Secretary; Nina Coolidge, Chairperson Standing: Harold Brohinsky, Treasurer; Randall Beach, Vice-Chairman Clinton Community College Foundation Seated: Christopher Booth, Pesident; Barbara Dor- rance, Secretary Standing: Roderic Giltz, Treasurer; Marguerite Douglas, Vice-President; Margaret Carey, Assistant Treasurer; Claire Goineau, Assistant Secretary 8 Graduates, please accept my sincere congratula- tions on the occasion of this most important achieve- ment in your lives. You have worked hard and sacrificed much to earn this reward. I know you believe it has been worth the effort. Education in its simplest terms is the process of developing as a per- son, and you have been about this as a student at Clin- ton. I am confident that the experience will serve you well in the future. Best wishes. Jay L. Fennell Academic Dean Jay L. A Backstairs Poet hen you are young, the fountain of youth runs wildly through the rampant rivers of your soul. You envision life as a spectrum of challenges. Love, hope, freedom, comraderie and friendship — these qualities are part of the spectrum of life. When you are young, the soft music of memoiy has yet to sound that special note. For life maintains a faster beat and the rhythm of the heart has yet to sing of romance. When you are young, you are in love with your youth. As the future bestows its blessings upon your life, your eyes gaze forward to search for bright horizons; and through the gentle morning mist of youth the horizon reflects back to you your dreams, your aspirations ... You are still young, but already you've begun to realize that time will not wait for your dreams to become truth; time will not wait for the coming of your horizon. You are still young, but springtime has fallen into summer and the summer is slowly giving way to fall. You are getting older and the fountain of youth that was once part of the rampant rivers of your soul is no longer wild, no longer able to maintain its fast pace. The horizon approaches and soon the spectrum of youth will give way to the maturity of age. When you are older, your dreams shall float upon the bright smile that calmly rests within your eyes. The joy within your soul shall give your laughter new strength. Courage, patience, unselfishness, kindness and warmth are qualities you will not surrender. When you are older, you come to appreciate the blessings you've received while traveling upon life's rough terrain. Youth and age, sunshine and moonlight, innocence and widsom are all part of the spectrum of life. When you are older, your spirit shall sing forth a melody of triumph. Young and old, the spectrum of life still sounds so sweet, so very genuine . .. I would give to you my wisdom if I felt you were in need of counsel. I would climb the highest mountains if I thought that it could make a difference in your valleys, but the rugged terrain of life transcends all physical barriers. I can only say to you that sincerity is a silent partner to those who search for truth. The long search for truth doesn't always end in happiness, but making the effort to search is the first step we take to find that silent partner that dwells deep within our hearts. After many moments of silence, we shall hear the voice of life booming from the mountain's summit, echoing the valley's laughter, giving life to all who listen, to all who search . . . 42 43 44 45 46 douqcLX Sfxoxt± Men’s Soccer Standing: John Braid, Tim Quain, Jim Lattrelle, Mike Langlois, Mike Renadette, Roger Wilcox, Randy Dickerson, Mike Duffina, Tom McCormick, Dan McCarthy, Coach Paul Harrica.
