Dedication Dean James D. Pletcher The job of college administrators has probably never been more demanding or less rewarding than in recent years. Many administrators have been accused of losing touch with their students and even with the entire educational process. It is with considerable satisfaction, therefore, that we, the students of Clinton Commu- nity College, dedicate Praecursor ’71 to two administrators who have certainly not lost touch. Deans James D. Pletcher and William T. Eveleth have both worked contin- uously for and with the students of CCC to ensure the prosperity and growth of 2 Dedication Dean William T. Eveleth the college. Neither man has become a faceless “voice” issuing edicts from on high. Rather each has maintained close and personal contact with the individual stu- dent. We feel that both the students and the residents of Clinton County are most fortunate to have had such talented leadership during the formative years of Clin- ton Community College. We hope that this dedication of our yearbook to “the Deans” will at least partially convey the sincere esteem we feel for them. 3 In Memory Of Francis Caron My name! What can it mean to thee? For it will fade like distant pounding Of mournful waves on rocks resounding Or like the rustling of a tree. A printed page may hold it long, A lifeless shape, a stark inscription, Or like a tombstone’s sad description Indited in an unknown tongue. What can it do? Long since forgot In passions new and life’s commotion It cannot give you — surely not — An image pure of past emotion. But on the final, fatal day Pronounce my name, sincerely grieving, And adding: In the world today I know a heart where I am living. Alexander Pushkin 4 I Academic Dean Mr. James D. Pletcher CLASS OF 1971, THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS FROM CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WE SALUTE YOU! As the first class you have weathered experiences which no other class will ever know. You will be scrutinized like no other class to graduate from this college. You will, I feel, be stronger for this. In the years ahead your true mettle will carry you closer to your chosen goals. I feel privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to par- ticipate in the leadership of your college. I trust that you will cherish the memories of 1969-1971 and help to perpetuate the growth and signifiance of Clinton Community College in this If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood Sincerely, £ . He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanks- giving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace. When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the “nay” in your own mind, nor do you withhold the “ay.” And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his ab- sence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught. And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. 83 KAHLIL GIBRAN Candids 84 85 86 Autographs
