DOGS END ON POSITIVE NOTE The 1985 football team had an enthusiastic but disappoint- ing year. The team was encouraged by the strong leadership of fifteen seniors. The Bulldogs' defense against the run was extremely strong. The Bulldogs ended their season on a good note. In the first ever sectional, the Bulldogs led the whole game, but lost in the final minutes by one point. The sectional game was a heartbreaker for this year's seniors, but leaves encouragement for next year's team. The 1985 football team will be remembered for its desire and heart. They faced a lot of adversity throughout the season but never quit. 62 63 LADY BULLDOGS HAVE EXPLOSIVE SEASON r N T Bulldogs Earn State Honors Clinton Central's Volleyball team had one of its most success- ful seasons ever. This year with Coach Barnett facing a rebuilding year, and the Bulldogs with only 2 starters returning achieved a record of 25 wins and 3 losses which is the best record in C.C. history. The Lady Bulldogs started out the season by winning the Hoosier Conference Tourney by overcoming 6th ranked McCutcheon in the final game. This enabled the Bulldogs to move into the Indiana State Polls at number 19. As the season progressed so did the Bulldogs by moving up in the state polls to 12th, then 8th, then holding 6th position until the end of the regular season. The Lady Bulldogs also accomplished the highest team rating in Clinton Central's History. The Bulldogs closed out their season by being defeated by the Tipton Blue Devils in the 2nd game of the Sectional. With only Andrea Ogle and Kim Millikan graduating, the future looks bright for the Lady Bull- dogs. Ogle, Millikan graduate Front Row: I. to R. Gina McKinney. Jessica Taylor. Kim Fields. Everyone on the team improved greatly this year, not only on the strokes, but also in times. Coach Janet Norris, with only six upper- classmen, said the team displayed a lot of talent despite its youth and inexperience. She is look- ing forward to next year. HIGHLIGHTS Lea Thompson set a school div- ing record and placed eleventh in the sectional. Stephanie McQuinn also placed in the 200 freestyle and the 500 free. The Bulldogs, under Coach John Sloggett, compiled a very respectable 16-6 season record. An inexperienced front line was in evidence as the Green and White lost the first two outings, but they rebounded to capture ten straight victories including Cen- tral's own holiday tourney. Central was tabbed co-favorites to cop the sectional tourney, but were upended by the champion, Tipton. Junior Mike Shoup led the team in scoring with a healthy 24 points per game average, but he had excellent support as four players finished at or near the double figure mark. Junior Steve Hodson was the team's leading rebounder and also had the top field goal percentage while Senior Richie Smith led the team in assists. John Shoup was named to the all conference team, and along with Richie Smith to the all county team. 70 THE 17-3 RESERVE TEAM: L to R: Todd Caldwell, Steve McKinney, Mark Laughner, Chad Perkins, David Dukes,Jason Payton.Jason Stroup. The girls lost four of their first five season games, but then strung 13 straight winning efforts the rest of the way. They won three more in tourney play before being ousted by Anderson. Central was paced by sophomore Steph- anie McQuinn’s inside game and Deanna Cole's outside play. McQuinn averaged 14 points a game with Cole slightly under her with twelve, but all the girls displayed a knack for scoring during the season. 72 Tilt RESERVE ROSTER, f ront Row: L to R, Bobbie Kallncr, Deann Kelly, Michele Holt. During Mr. Smith's tenure the Multi-Pur- pose room was remodeled and an addition was made to the high school to give Central fine facilities. A program for the gifted and talented was started and the special education program was improved. Smith plans to move to southern Indiana to be near his children and grandchildren and to play golf and fish.
