The Clinton Central football team started the year off with a team of new coaches. Coach John Holden and his two assistants, Dan Callahan and Brad Snyder, taught the team many new ideas. There were close games and the gridders fought hard. Next year the team will be more exper- ienced and stronger. This year for the team senior Glenn Orr and junior Brian Laughner were named All-Confer- ence. Also Brian Laughner was named All-State Punter for his successful season. Top Row: G. Turner, M. Graves. The im- proved competition caused the girls to have a more difficult year, but yet they improved their skills. The junior varsity had a good year. Their new coach Tracy Johnson led them to have a successful record of 14-4. 66 Top: Coach Barnett. Elizabeth Perkins. Kim Millikan. Lori Evans. Deanna Cole. Becky LaMar. Coach Johnson. For the first time in the school’s history, Clinton Central was represented at the state meet. Karin Oil- son competed at the state meet in the breast stroke and was a member of the medley re- lay team. She finished 16th. Other members of the relay team were Marita Huffer, Ronda Long, and Kim Humburg. As a team, Central finished the season with a fine record. They tied for first place honors at the Carroll Invi- tational and received third place at the Ham- ilton Southeastern Relays. Many new school records were set this season. Central also set a sectional record in the breast stroke. 68 69 Karin Ollson prepares herself for her heat at the state meet Harriers show heels to opponents First row. L to R: Coach Thompson. The DAWGS, under new head coach Dan Callahan and assistant Brad Snyder, and aided along the way by former CC wrestlers Andy Cline and David Lawler, grappled their way to an impressive 16-1 record and claimed both the Sectional and Regional tournament crowns. The only defeat came at the hands of the number one ranked team in the state, Warren Central. The Dawgs, which means Determined Aggressive Wrestling Grapplers, sent four men to the Semi-State, Gerrid Tishner, Chris Burns, Bryan Ridenour, and John Rogers. Ridenour and Rogers advanced to the State Finals, but were eliminated. Rogers was ranked eighth in the state and Burns was slated fourth throughout the year. Overall, it was a great year with heavyweight Tobe Leazenby capturing High Points, Greg Turner was selected the Most Improved, and Rogers was tabbed DAWG of the Year. Top Row: Coach Dan Callahan. T. The girls failed in winning the County Tourney again by losing to Clinton Prairie in the championship game. They avenged this loss, though, in the sec- tional by beating Clinton Prairie in over-time. Coach Linda Barnett was assisted this year by Tra- cy Johnson, better known as C.J. . C.J. pro- vided a great deal of help on-court as well as off- court, for both J.V. and Varsity players. The varsi- ty ended the season with a record of 16-5, and the J.V. finished with a 12-1 record. Many individual awards were received this year. Stacy McKinney was nominated to Academic All-State. Our school has celebrated its Silver Anniver- sary and prepared the twenty-fifth senior class for graduation. We have built a rich tradition for qual- ity education and have become known statewide for strong activ- ity programs. We are proud of our twenty-five year school history. We must continue to utilize the priceless right to improve our- selves. Remember, America was not made great by common men and women, but by uncommon men and women. I challenge each of you to be uncommon in your accomplishments not only for yourself, but for the betterment of your community and mankind. 108 Assistant Principal Wayne Watson Mr. Smith keeps things running smoothly Clinton Central is an institution of learning, not only in academic achievements, but in acquiring sound judgement. The administration, faculty, and school personnel all work together to provide opportunities for students to excel in various fields of interest. The superintendent's office, under the guidance of Mr. Ned Smith, is instrumental in providing modern facilities and striving for new and better ideas. RETURN CENTRAL ENDS FIRST QUARTER CENTURY FIRST NET TEAM HOLDS REUNION The 1960 edition of Bulldog bas- ketball teams, winners of the Sec- tional tourney, met during the winter to recall old friendships and relive the thrills of victory. Pic- tured are: Seated, Tom Caldwell, Denny Shoup, Coach Andy Taff, Mike Ogle. Jerry Ostler. Standing, Phil Shirk, Mike Blackburn, Jim Payton, Bob Bradley, Larry Evans. Phil Wilkens was unable to attend. Through the years ... In 1956, the County Board of Education hired Indiana Uni- versity to survey the county school system, and acting upon its recommendation, the trustees of the soon-to-be Clinton Central Corporation consolidated their townships. Con- tracts were let for construction in 1958 with actual construc- tion beginning in October, with completion occurring during the school year of 1959. A remodeling of parts of the building was completed in 1982 and plans are on the drawing board for future changes to the Multi-Purpose room. Since 1960, some 2400 diplomas have been granted, and, while being a comparatively small school, Central has had many memorable achievements. There has been two Na- tional Merit Finalists, countless scholarships won, and a good percentage of graduates moving into colleges as CC contin- ues to better or match the achievement scores on a national level. Central has had county D.A.R. winners, a State Fair Queen, a state winner at Boys State, state and national art winners, national FHA award winners, and twice was ruled the top FFA chapter in the state. The athletic teams have gained a reputation of being very competitive in all sports. The boys basketball team has cap- tured four Sectionals, winning the Regional once while the girls have cut down the sectional nets three times. The boy and girl track teams have fared well in state competition while the 1984 wrestling team went all the way to the state finals. Boy and girl swimmers have come into their own as both have sent athletes to the state. Four boys have won athletic scholarships since 1978. On November 6, 1983, an open house and re-dedication of the school was held honoring the six faculty members that have been on the staff since its inception, former superinten- dents and principals, former board members, and two of the original custodial staff. Clinton Central is, and has been proud of its traditions. All can reflect upon the accomplishments, be proud, and look forward to the future that promises to be even better.
