Although students come to Clinton Central for an education, the learning is not restricted to the classroom. The various extracurricular activities often teach the students much more about life and living with people than books could ever teach. These extracurricular activites are exten- sions of the school which encompass the interest of nearly every student. Each student is given the opportunity to participate and by participating can make the most of his high school years. 13 Students Learn By Doing While practicing for a puppet show in speech, Lisa Clark, Rod Webb and Betty Walker exhibit their I.Q. Christmas programs came next with the playing of Yuletide melodies. Both individual and group efforts of band members were rewarded in the district and state contests. Clinton Central hosted Rossville and Clin- ton Prairie in the County Festival. Our big- gest event, The Band Varieties, came next as members showed off their talents. Au- diences enjoyed the Spring Festival presented by the entire music department. The final event was playing at com- mencement as juniors, sophomores and freshmen showed the seniors that they could do it all alone. Dana Wilson led the band at all football games and parades. She did an excellent job of keeping the band together and going. The pom-pom girls performed at football games and parades. The girls also put on special shows, led by head pom-pom girl Beth Davis. Football Starts Sports Year Successfully Top left: Central Runs away with their homecoming. Top right: Val- ley snakes” through the line. Bottom right: Brant gets sidetracked by the sideline. In football it all comes down to this—to courage, to stamina, to co-ordinated efficiency and to contact. Football is uninhibited by social barriers. It depends on deeply personal involvement. Each week presents a new encounter, each year a new challenge. The will to excel and the will to win are positive, enduring fac- tors. They are more important than any events that occasion them. —Vince Lombardi 41 B Frosh Teams Create Backbone For Future B” TEAM: First Row: G. Orr, S. Fields, C. Cassada, G. Inman, M. Clark, G. Following the fad set by the football team, Coach Burns and his Wonder Eleven” created one of the most victorious seasons in the history of the school. The Bulldogs this year were the first outright Mid-Central Conference Champions. They compiled a record of 16 wins and 5 losses, including a school record of 13 straight wins. With a miracle finish they won our Holiday Tourney. The only dark spot during the season was a heart- breaking loss in the Sectional to Rossville. Yet this loss will disappear into the shadows of time if the underclassmen of Central can follow in the steps of this year’s team with a winning tradition. 45 Wrestling Gives Zest to Sports First Row: Johnson, Zook, Sink, H. These students are no longer a major part of CC; they are a product. For the seniors of this book, the certainty of day by day routine of school is gone. They are on their own. Yet the daily experiences of these students in school will provide the basis for the rest of their lives. The relationships of students with other students, students with adults, and friends with friends affect the nature of relationships of the future. And the daily experi- ences in the class rooms combined together form sources of knowledge that will be called upon to aid in achieving goals of life. Although Clinton Central’s daily routine is past for the seniors of 73”, a part of Clinton Central will al- ways remain with us in the form of knowledge, friends and memories. 128 paRacoN yeaRBOOKS V. : ' - •‘.• 55.
