OB fr' we dm? ,nd .1 Winning the Holiday Tourney, tying in the Mid-Central Conference in football, the five min- ute rushing to classes, and the antics in govern- ment, history, and English classes provided the action program for Central. The enthusiasm the students showed for the activities during 1967 proved that Central's on the move. ,fd if mi mai l .4432 mamma Lx E E t 2 , , ri H Q YQ 2 H le. n QE NT BULLDOG COUNTQY 'P .77?vw,.3, Cen,tral's C. School Life .... . Personalities Academics .... The last-minute rush- ing to classes, heading into the next day's assignments, struggling with a math problem, and the cramming for tomorrow's tests and quizzes make a constantly shifting pattern of activity. Our night life seems even busier. There are the tiresome, but rewarding, cheerleading practices, the perfection of a song for contest, the excitement a sectional tourney brings, and the worrisome problems of a prom. But as we move, so does the school. When Clinton Central was admitted to the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges in 1965, she did not stop. Central formed the Mid-Central conference with other schools to give less emphasis on one or two sports and more emphasis on the abilities of boys in all sports as a whole. Even after we, the students, the faculty, and administration have reached these goals, spirit will not lag because CE.'VTRAL'S ON THE MOVE. Seniors begin their challenging year My last football game, my last music contest, my last sectional tourney, my last school dance, and my last school year were thoughts which arose in the Seniors' minds. Some were happy, and others were sad, but all Seniors agreed that their Senior year was the fastest moving and the busiest. Being officers of clubs, the Seniors demon- strated their outstanding leadership and respon- sibility. Winning the Mid Central Conference trophy in football and the Holiday Tourney were the two highlights of 1967. As the band played Pomp and Circumstance and the chorus sang Halls of Ivy the Seniors again thought, Is it over so soon? fix. F . Besides offering six years of English, the department included developmental reading, speech, Latin I and II, and Spanish I and II. Students in these classes found the library useful for finding information for debates, term papers, and book re- ports. All students in the seventh through eleventh grades were required to take English, but senior English was an elective. Seventh and eighth graders studied vocabulary, grammar, short stories, and poetry, while freshmen became engrossed with Shakespeare's ROMEO AND -IULIET. Sophomores drilled on grammar and vocabulary and analyzed the novel SILAS MARNER. Studying early Amer- ican works, and stories by William Faulkner, jun- iors learned of their American heritage and the moral beliefs of American authors. Reading Greek mythology, BEOWULF, CANTERBURY TALES, and HAMLET occupied only a portion of the se- nior English students' time. The remainder of the year the students studied the compositions of es- sayists and critical and descriptive writers. 58 Students in Speech Class presented interpretive readings, pantomimes, and speeches, and partici- pated in debates. Presenting the Easter convoca- tion was a challenge to the speech students. Spanish I students enjoyed a Pinata Party at Christmas. Assorted candy fell from the pinata as the blindfolded students punctured it with a stick. Students in Spanish II listened to tapes to develop their ability to speak Spanish. Translation and memorization of Latin words were the main achievements of Latin I and II stu- dents. In Latin II, students studied the focal points of Roman History. This year Creative Writing replaced the Jour- nalism Class. The class comprised the CEN- TRALIAN staff which edited twelve issues of the CENTRALIAN. When the students weren't work- ing on the newspaper, they wrote short stories, feature stories, editorials, and poetry. To increase their reading ability, students en- rolled in developmental reading. The students increased their reading speed and comprehension. This year he helped other students discover the impor- tance and rewards of studying science in high school. With a firm grip freshman biology students begin to un- cover their frogs' brains. By studying the climate and location of countries, the world geography classes accurately predicted the weather. Indiana, World and U.S. History, and government broadened the students' minds and helped them understand their responsi- bilities to their state and country. Economics classes experimented with stocks and bonds and developed their own companies. Taking a field trip to the Logansport mental hospital helped so- ciology students understand more about social problems within their community. In social studies, one can travel all over the globe. Terry Newby skillfully operates a band saw. Faster than a speeding bullet, the first year typing class types between 20 and 70 words per minute. sl 62 'l Future architects complete their mechanical drawing lesson. Vocational courses Vocational agriculture students not only studied methods of new and old farm production, but they also studied the soil, crops, and livestock. By practicing parliamentary procedure, the students learned the procedure to conduct orderly meetings. They also kept accurate records of supervised farming projects. The training that the agriculture students received will enable them to begin farm- ing or to enter college with a well rounded back- ground in agriculture. Classesin the Industrial Arts Department includ- ed shop, printing, and mechanical drawing. Stu- dents learned new methods in welding, brazing, and soldering. By diligently working on the en- gines of tractors and cars, the knowledge that the students gained will enable them to become skilled mechanics. Printing students printed the lunch and milk tickets and also helped in printing cards and programs. By drawing blueprints, mechanical drawing students understood how buildings are con- structed. Because of the knowledge and skill that these departments have given Central's students, they will be prepared to enter a profitable occupation. Concerned with learning a skill, students in the Art, Vocational Home Economics, Vocational Ag- riculture, and Industrial Arts Departments leamed the techniques to run a sewing machine, a tractor, and a band saw, and learned to appreciate art. These departments offered different skills which will help these students in their future lives. Students in the Art Department tried their skill on projects, including ceramics, leathercraft, chalk murals, oil paintings, water colors, and posters. This year the best posters were entered in the WCTU nation-wide poster contest. The library beautifully displayed the art students' projects during the year. Adults in the Clinton Central School Corporation benefitted from the Art De- partment by taking night courses in leathercraft. Not only does the Vocational Home Economics Department include foods and clothing, but the girls learned nursing, home management, family living, interior decoration, nutrition, and etiquette. Senior and junior girls attended the 1967 Home Show at Indianapolis. Sophomore girls decorated the home economics showcase to stress to other students the importance of home economics and to portray the spirit of a season or holiday during the yeaf. Budding artists concentrate on a project develop useful skills for future years S X S 9 H Home Economics students decorate a showcase to share their accomplishments. 'iw Demonstrating their talented abilities, physical education girls attempt to make free throws. We prepare or safe, health future Mr. Garrison shines again after a driver's education pupil successfully parallel parks ,-g.- ,!'- ' -NT 64 In eighth grade physical education class these boys increase their brawn on the parallel bars. Y Physical education, drivers' education, and health and safety classes comprised the remainder of the curriculum at Central. Knowing the basic principles taught in these classes, students were ready to begin safer and healthier living. Students from the seventh to tenth grades were required to take physical education. Besides in- dulging in basketball and baseball, the boys worked on the trampoline, parallel bars, and wrestled. An advanced physical education class was offered to junior and senior boys interested in a strenuous program. Girls competed in volleyball, softball, and participated in gymnastics. A summer drivers' education class as well as the regular classes was offered to the students. After spending the first part of the course studying a textbook, students experienced the thrill of driving. Learning the hazards in the home and community and basic first aid, seventh, eighth, and tenth grade students began safer living. By studying the func- tions of the body, they were able to understand better their emotional problems. By revealing the accomplishments of all Central's students in pictures, the 1967 EX LIBRIS staff has shown why CENTRAL'S ON THE MOVE. The purpose of the 1967 EX LIBRIS is not merely to express a theme, but its main purpose is to serve as a memory book. Over the years sweet memories may be for- gotten. Exciting football games, being crowned homecoming queen, preparing for Band Varieties, winning the Holiday Tourney, and beautifying the gym for Prom night will not easily be forgotten, but the fun times in English, Math, or History class may. Working night and day, the EX LIBRIS Staff hopes that it has successfully preserved these memories for you. The future is still our own, but we believe that the past is not forever gone because it can be relived again and again through the pages of each yearbook.
