Ron Smith presents the Star Farmer award George Fox, Mr. Brinson, Jay Hawley, Mike Wayt, Steve Avery, Dave McCain, Bill Ricker, Mr. Brinson, Mr. McKinney, Mr. Carl Eiche, Farm Editor of the Prairie Farmer. Chapter Achievements of 1963-1964 The Chapter had several boys in the State FFA chorus and band at the State Fair. They appeared on the Harry Martin TV Show. In the fall the soil judging team won first in the County, fifth in the District, and tenth in the State. Last year’s National Runners-up team were ineligible to compete. The Parliamentary Procedure Team gave a demonstration at the Sept. FFA District L?ad2rship school and we had 26 boys in attendance. In October all chapter Green Hands were initiated in a County initiation at Clinton Prairie. Four boys chaperoned by Earnest Avery and Jim Swackhamer, attended the National Convention. During Thanksgiving vacation the members spent two days in Chicago at the International Livestock Show. In December, the boys participated in the County livestock judging contest, held our chapter farmer initiation, car wash and corn pick-up. During the Christmas vacation the Chapter had a fox drive. In January 7 boys were nominated for the Hoosier Farmer Degree. The chapter wrote 9 articles for the Frankfort paper on safety and sold seat belts. Several chapter members inspected 75 farms as a part of our safe- ty work and team competition was enjoyed in the pest drive. February was District FFA contest. Our District has 13 counties, 46 schools with FFA Chapters. Our winnings were: first in the cooperative contest, first in the essay contest, second in the FFA demonstration, second in FFA State Chapter contest, third in the speech contest, third in the exhibit contest. We received second place on our treasurer's book and third place on the secretary's book. The essay written by Norman Smith and our entries in the State Chapter and Cooperative contest qualified for the State Convention competition which will be held in the summer. In January the chapter participated with the adult Farmer class in a trade fair inviting local merchants to participate. The chapter won the County Crop Judging contest. - 14 -
