The senior cords? The pep sessions? Play rehearsal until late? Who cannot recall the memorable prom evenings? These things have left fresh im- prints that, with passing, will turn to fond reminiscences. This is Clinton Central. And with each activity and custom here at Central, there are peo- ple. The people who are the clubs, the people who attend the dances, the people who are in the classes, the people who are called friends. There’s that “Special Someone,” that favorite teacher who symbol- izes the student’s ideal: the guy who always slouches in the seat next to yours in study hall. These too are Central. They have stamped their character traits in a blend with our own. The people, the events, these are now a part of us. the traditions—these are what we have met; Nancy Brown Editor ifr Saynt STATE CHORUS Front row, left to right: Patty Harlos, Harold Daulton, Roberta Oliver, Mike Thompson, Jane Cripe, Gary Fearnow, Carol Thomas. In the fall the soil judging team won first in the County, fifth in the District, and tenth in the State. Last year’s National Runners-up team were ineligible to compete. The Parliamentary Procedure Team gave a demonstration at the Sept. FFA District L?ad2rship school and we had 26 boys in attendance. In October all chapter Green Hands were initiated in a County initiation at Clinton Prairie. Four boys chaperoned by Earnest Avery and Jim Swackhamer, attended the National Convention. During Thanksgiving vacation the members spent two days in Chicago at the International Livestock Show. In December, the boys participated in the County livestock judging contest, held our chapter farmer initiation, car wash and corn pick-up. During the Christmas vacation the Chapter had a fox drive. In January 7 boys were nominated for the Hoosier Farmer Degree. The chapter wrote 9 articles for the Frankfort paper on safety and sold seat belts. Several chapter members inspected 75 farms as a part of our safe- ty work and team competition was enjoyed in the pest drive. February was District FFA contest. Our District has 13 counties, 46 schools with FFA Chapters. Our winnings were: first in the cooperative contest, first in the essay contest, second in the FFA demonstration, second in FFA State Chapter contest, third in the speech contest, third in the exhibit contest. We received second place on our treasurer's book and third place on the secretary's book. The essay written by Norman Smith and our entries in the State Chapter and Cooperative contest qualified for the State Convention competition which will be held in the summer. In January the chapter participated with the adult Farmer class in a trade fair inviting local merchants to participate. The chapter won the County Crop Judging contest. - 14 - QUEEN’S COURT Rebecca Francis Freshman Jane Michael Sophomore Diana Gallichan Junior Pat Wayt crowns Judith Amos F.F.A. Queen. Myers A teacher of girls and boys through social studies and mathematics for 28 years. After math — 1964 —. When Earth's last picture is painted And the tubes are twisted and dried, When the oldest colors have faded. And the youngest critic has died. We shall rest, and faith, we shall need it — Lie down for an eon or two. Till the Master of All Good Workmen Shall set us to work anew. And those that were good will be happy: They shall sit in a golden chair: They shall splash at a ten-league canvas With brushes of comets’ hair. They shall find real saints to draw from — Magdalene, Peter, and Paul; They shall work for an age at a setting and never be tired at all. And only the Master shall praise us, And only the Master shall blame; And no one shall work for money, And no one shall work for fame. But each for the joy of the working, And each, in his separate star, Shall draw the Things as he sees It. For the God of the things as they are. The reaction of man to the challenge of greatness has promoted leader- ship. Our schools must strive to create an atmosphere in which opportunities for leadership training prevails. There must always be an awareness of the worth of an individual. Mrs. Marjorie Gossard Mrs. Mary McCain Assistant secretary. Secretary. Superintendent’s office Mrs. Gossard and Mrs. McCain aren’t in the “lime light” very often but are always at the heart of the whole school program. All the details of planning for our school and the elementary schools, await their hands. We seniors, who hope to be the leaders of tomor- row can learn much from the examples set by these leaders of today. - 52 - Mr. Wilbur Rule, Assistant principal. The leaders of tomorrow must meet the challenges of today. The journey to far away en- chanted places begins amidst our own familiar surroundings. The preparations we make are likely to determine how well we travel, how much we enjoy the scenes as we go along and will enable us to share these ex- periences with our fellow trav- elers. We, as a highly civilized nation have relied on educational institu- tions for our achievements as of to- day. In addition to our formal book learning, our extra curricular or- ganizations are doing much to de- velop our leaders of tomorrow. Students must realize there is nothing worth more than this day. They can never relive yesterday, and tomorrow is still beyond their reach. Mr. 0. L. Stowers, Assistant principal. Mrs. Joyce Rule Secretary, principal’s office. We don’t know how many minutes there are in a school day, but we do know that the desk in the main office is like a time table, where there is some- thing to be done all the time. It does get done, though. Ask, who’s this? where’s this? and what’s this? and Mrs. Rule usually has the answer. And now after four years, we Seniors begin to realize a bit of the things that have been done for us. - 53 - FACULTY Kenneth E. Jim Morton scored 2 of 3 Bulldog touchdowns, by running 47 yards around right end on Central’s second play. Morton climaxed the second quar- ter by intercepting one of Max Chambers’ aerials, as the clock ran out, and barging 30 yards down the left side of the field for another six points. Central returned in the fourth quarter to harass Eas- tern's always-potent Comets. But neither team was able to break each others offense and defense lines. CLINTON CENTRAL - 6, SOUTHWESTERN - 7 August 30 Central ravaged Southwestern defenses for 206 yards rushing in the second half, but repeatedly broke down within range of the goal, to absorb a 7-6 defeat. Explo- sive left halfback Jim Morton circled Southwestern's flanks for 152 yards rushing yardage. The Bulldogs fumbled five times and lost three of them, to disrupt any traces of an offense. CENTRAL DEFEATS EAST TIPP CLINTON CENTRAL 14 — EAST TIPP 2 September 6 Clinton Central sparked by Jim Morton’s 62 yard touchdown ramble, turned back a determined, but un- dermanned East Tipp eleven, 14-2, to even its seasons mark at 1-1. Central completely dominated the first half - 83 VARSITY YELL LEADERS Linda Cheek, Nancy Crum, Bonnie Quebe, Mary Lou Dow. (Continued from page 83) of play, but the Trojans came back strong in the second half, to give a fine account of themselves. Bill Stroup tackled Jerry Lesley in the end zone for a safety. Dan Abbot scored one touchdown as did Jim Morton. HOT DOGS BARELY BEAT CENTRAL BULLDOGS FOR THIRD TIME — September 13 CLINTON CENTRAL 0 — FRANKFORT 6 Clinton Central’s upset didn't quite materialize, but the fighting Bulldogs keep narrowing the margin of vic- tory. Pat Wayt was injured by the Hot Dogs with just seven seconds to go, giving Frankfort the time it needed to set up their decisive play. In the first half. Central opened fire with a reckonlessness that kept the visitors off balance through the first 20 minutes. Any notions of a Central drive were shattered when Richard Myers tripped up Morton for a four yard loss and two Central passes fell incomplete. CENTRAL TALLIES 3 TOUCHDOWNS IN 1ST HALF TO REPULSE PRAIRIE — September 20 CLINTON CENTRAL 26 — CLINTON PRAIRIE 7 The fired-up Gophers lost a TD on an early clipping penalty. Central recovered from early game jitters to repulse a fired up Clinton Prairie eleven, 26-7, and even it’s season’s mark at 2-2. Central broke the game open in the final 14 minutes of the first half with three touch- downs to win comfortably in an otherwise close ball- game. Jim Morton and Jerry Fields scored a touchdown each with Danny Abbott scoring two touchdowns, with Morton scoring two extra points. CLINTON CENTRAL ABSORBS DEFEAT ON TOUCH- DOWN IN FINAL 45 SECONDS. — September 27 CLINTON CENTRAL 6 - JACKSON 7 Jackson Central punched across a touchdown with only 45 seconds left, then added the all important extra point, to deal the hustling Bulldogs of Clinton Central a heartbreaking 7-6 defeat. In the second quarter Jim Morton scored the only Central touchdown. CENTRAL TRIUMPHS AFTER TRAILING SHERIDAN CLINTON CENTRAL 20 - SHERIDAN 14 October 4 Central bounced back from a dreary first half per- formance to overcome a 13-0 Sheridan lead and won going away, 20-14, Bill Stroup scoring a touchdown and Jim Morton scoring two touchdowns and two place- ments. CENTRAL CENTRAL COPS WIN OFF NUGGETS Clinton Central 25 — Klondike 0 October 11 Central’s running combination of Jim Morton and Dan Abbott plus alert defensive play enabled the Bull- dogs to blank Klondike, 25-0. Jim Morton scored two touchdowns. Dan Abbott and Bill Stroup each contri- buted a touchdown, with Mike Thompson running an extra point. - 84 - FOOTBALL HOMECOMING QUEEN Linda Jackson, Senior, crowned by Jerry Fields. But Western surprised the Bulldogs defense and scored 21 points in the 2nd half. Central was held back mainly by several penalties. (Continued from Page 84) WESTFIELD NABS SURPRISING 29-0 VICTORY OFF CLINTON CENTRAL October 23 Provided with momentum by a fluke safety, Westfield staked out a 15-0 first quarter lead, and romped to a surprising 19-0 vic- tory off favored Clinton Central. Craig Stowers downed the open- ing kickoff, but officials ruled that he stepped into the end zone and called it a safety. Central, confronted with a huge deficit before it had successful executed a single play from scrimmage, soon discovered that this was one of those nights when nothing went right. Perhaps that moment will occur out of curiosity, perhaps out of a yearning to remember. Whatever the reason for opening, the memories contained within will make clos- ing it a little hard, if that person is the one reading this copy now. For to contain memories, to record a year within these pages, has been the goal of the Ex Libris staff. We have peered and probed into just about every nook and cranny in these halls, taking pictures, asking questions, trying to find what has mada this year unique. Undoubtedly the cover will collect dust with the years, the ink on your autographs may fade, but the efforts put forth by 13 staff members, most of whom were new to publications work, will remain a part of the reader’s past, your past. For despite all our efforts, it will be the last time we will see many of our fellow seniors. To us they will al- ways appear as we saw them last — young, crewcut or pixiecut and friendly. Through all the years they will re- main youthful in a kind of never-never land, to which only we and they hold the key.
