It started with many ideas, and confusion. Now it is in your hands. We planned a theme around which we could build our book. We chose 'tOpen Doors. Once these school grounds were open fields and barren places. Now there are many open doors. Through these doors come the students to Clinton Central High. Here is a new school with new opportunities and new challenges. Those who pass through these doors leave with a greater knowledge. May this book reflect the spirit of Clinton Central, a school, which, we believe, is second to none. Presented by the Senior Class of CLINTQN CENTRAL HIGH SCHUCL Michigantown, Rural Route, lndiana FRCDM CPE FIELDS PRCDGRESS IN EDUCATIC Early in the spring of 1956, the Clinton County Board of Education, composed of the fourteen township trustees, engaged Indiana University Department of Education to make a county survcy of the school systems and make recommendations for their improve- ment. This survey was completed in December, 1956, and the results were published in book form and re- leased early in 1957. The Indiana University Depart- ment of Education recommended that Clinton County be divided into three school districts, that a new build- ing be constructed in each district for classes 7 through 12, and that the present school buildings be used for classes 1 through 6. As a result of these recommendations, George Black- burn, Ralph Butler, Sam Davis, and Edwin Record, trustees of Warren, Johnson, Forest, and Michigan townships respectively, met at the home of Ralph Butler to discuss plans and procedure for consolidating the schools of their townships into one unit. Before much progress was made, Roy Walker, trustee of Sugar Creek township, requested that his township be permitted to join with the other four. Henry Morrison, attorney, was engaged to handle the legal proceedings and Clinton Central School Corporation was formed, consist- ing of Warren, Johnson, Forest, Michigan, and Sugar Creek townships with the following school Board of Education: George Blackburn, President, Sam Davis, Secretary, Ralph Butler, Treasurer, Roy Walker and Edwin Record, members. Very soon after Clinton Central Consolidation was effected, a number of school patrons of Kirklin Town- ship became interested in joining the consolidation. Robert McKinney, trustee of Kirklin township requested that his township be permitted to join the Clinton Central School Corporation. After the necessary legal proceedings, the present Clinton Central School Corp- oration became effective July 29, 1957. O CPE DODRS David Hamblin was hired as Superintendent and his office was established in the Farmers Bank build- ing at Michigantown. Mr. Hlamblin and the school board visited many school buildings and interviewed numerous architects and engaged the firm of Everett I. Brown Co., of Indianapolis to design a new school building. After careful consideration of the recom- mendations of the architect and Indiana University Department of Education, plans for the present Clinton Central School were approved. Options were then taken on 4 proposed locations. The advantages and disadvantages of each site were carefully considered and the present location was selected as being the best site for the new building. The contracts were let on July 5, 1958, and the bonds to finance the construction were sold on Aug. 19, 1958. Ground breaking ceremonies were held September 15, 1958 and we were finally on our way to building a new school. Actual construction was started in October of 1958. It was very interesting to follow the progress of the construction, and even though I was very familiar with the plans of this building, I could not visualize the size and beauty of the building until its completion. The School Board tried to plan a building that would accommodate the needs of Education in this area, one that would be durable and easy to maintain and one that the people could be proud of in years to come. I am sure that each member of the first Clinton Central School Board feels honored to have had a part in this project that will mean so much to the Clinton Central Communities in the years ahead, -Edwin D. King, Sugar Creek. page 34 Mr. Richard Falls Principal Too often, We aim our educational plans in the direction of the status of the young people of yesterday. We must consider the socio-economic changes and aim beyond the point Where today's young men and Women will be, as our educational plan progresses. Thank you for entrusting the youth of this community to our hands that we may endeavor to create within them an awareness of their world. Mr. O. L. Stowers Assistant Principal Dean of Men Since We are an educational institution, it is our hope to teach these young people so that they will be better qualified to meet the challenges of life, which in turn bring happiness. Success should not necessarily be measured in wealth because there are other things that determine our achievements in life. Happiness and service to mankind should be our goal. When students fail to surpass us in the better things of life, then we as teachers and parents have failed. page 35 Mrs. Helen Thompson Mrs. Mary McCain Superintendent Hamblin depends upon Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. McCain to keep records, arrange appointments and check supplies. WESTFIELD Clinton Central journeyed to Westfield September 4. The Bulldogs were swept off their feet by three fast T.D. in the first quarter, by the Shamrocks. In spite of the one sided score, 57-2, the Bulldogs gained some real experience. WINCHESTER ' September 11, the Clinton Central Bulldogs went over to Winchester for its third game. The big Winchester page 44 eleven was too much for C.C. The 18-0 defeat does not show how much the squad had improved over their previous game. KNOX The first home game was September 18 with Knox. The boys played a good defensive game. The linemen showed considerable improvement. The squad eouldntt make it a victory. The score ended 7-13, in favor of Knox. FRANKFORT On September 25, Clinton Central was host to the Frankfort Hot Dogs. The Bulldogs lived up to their fighting spirit and fought to the finish. Frankfort's more experienced squad bested C.C. 39-6. SQUAD Top row, left to right: Loveless, J. McKinney, Williams, Hopp, J. Shirk. Jackson Central rallied in the second half to best C.C. 13-7. PIKE TOWNSHIP On October 9, the Bulldogs journeyed down to Pike Township where they met a rough playing squad. The Red Devils found that the Bulldogs could take it and had to give ground for 2 T.D. In the last quarter, roughness and penalties gave the Red Devils the opportunity to add up a 33-13 victory. The Tigers' experienced team cashed in on some costly blunders of the Bulldogs to wrap up a 44-6 final score. WESTERN Oct. 23 was a r-ed letter day when Western came to Clinton Central, The previous losses and hard earned experience shaped up a fighting spirit amongst the Bulldogs that would not be downed. Showing its best form of the season paid off with a 18-0 victory. 1959 FOOTBALL SQUAD SHE RIDAN The final game of the season was with Sheridan, Oct. 30, here. The Clinton Central squad showed im- provement and played a harder game than the score might indicate. The Blackhawks were big and fast and won a 38-12 victory. The Bulldog squad had about 50721 of its players who were entirely new to football, The team played hard, learned, and improved during the season. One thing was outstanding in that their fighting spirit never let down even at times when the odds were against them. The entire student body is proud of the fine attitude 1 Name NO. CALDWELL CATCHING - JACKSON GAME page 57 In attempting to build the Athletic pro- gram at Clinton Central I would like for l us to demonstrate to the people with whom we come in contact that victory is not all we seek. Let each of us, wheth- er superintendent, principal, coach, play- er or spectator emphasize the point that to Win is commendable. That to demon- strate superiority is one goal we are after. But let us not lose sight of the fact that the means employed are of greater consequence, and that the results we seek are not championships alone but victory of the player, the team, and the school over the temptations of unfair tactics. Team championships may be won and forgotten but the individual character built by participation in all the sports is lasting. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for cooperating in help- ing make this year a success in athletics at Clinton Central. Wilbur T. Rule Athletic Dir-ector The all sports banquet was held April 6 in the Multipurpose room. Over 300 patrons, students, and visitnrs were in attendance. Mr. Phil Eskew, superintendent of the Huntington City Schools, was the guest speaker. He related some of his experiences when he used to referee basketball games. The sectional trophy in basket- ball was presented to the school. Other awards were given to outstanding players in basketball and football.
