The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rankin have gone on a trip leaving their three children in charge. The neighbors, Fay, Ned, and Gary are over to the Rankins quite often and were there the day a certain letter from Mrs. Betsy Haines arrived. This led to what proved to be a joke on the Rankins but was intended for the Haines. The Rankin children and neighbors dressed as hill billies and tried to make the Haines believe they actually lived that way. But the Haines found out about this trick and played along.
