Class Histor The Senior Class of 1955 had it's school career started under the direction of Miss Vesta Gifford in 1942. The Seniors are ll in number but they started out with only 9. Of the ll finished pro- ducts, only 5 started in Climbing Hill, Mary Schwarz, Bill Balk, and Don Fredinburg.Richard Schwanke joined us the second semester of our primary yearg Paul Dicks-2nd gradeg Dick James-Srd gradeg Monte Brinker and Phyllis Lohse-7th gradegCarl Gordon in the 8thg Gaylan Edwards as a Junior, and Gary Drake as a Senior. We started high school with great anticipations. The first thing we met was Freshmen Initiation, the Sophomores did a good job on us, we hardly recognized ourselves. Our Freshmen year ended and we were ready for our second year and geometry, geometry wasn't nearly as bad as we expected, and to our amazement most of us actually enjoyed it. Since it is generally true that the Junior year is the busiest, ours was no exception. The first big event was getting our class ring, and the Junior Class Play,WRest Assuredn. In the spring we picked the theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet,NOriental Gardensu and assisted in getting the Seniors out of school. Then at last we were Seniors, it didn't seem possible that four years could go so fast, but it wasn't long before we were working on our Senior Class Play, nThe Hoosier Schoolmasteru, and also finishing up our work and getting ready for Commencement. On May 17, the ll of us were proud to walk up to the stage and receive our diplomas, our high school career was ended, but our lives were just commencing. We will always remember our days at C-Hill where we enjoyed and appreciated the friendship of our classmates and teachers. girwza . The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rankin have gone on a trip leaving their three children in charge. The neighbors, Fay, Ned, and Gary are over to the Rankins quite often and were there the day a certain letter from Mrs. Betsy Haines arrived. This led to what proved to be a joke on the Rankins but was intended for the Haines. The Rankin children and neighbors dressed as hill billies and tried to make the Haines believe they actually lived that way. But the Haines found out about this trick and played along. Uncle Zeb, the real hill billy, felt quite at home in his role. The whole thing turned out alright in the end. Director. . . . . . .Mrs. Brinkerfq -a' 'Qs I-s. , ug, . First Row, Alice Paul- son, Francyne Divine, Sandra Sulsburger, Mike Bryan, Roger McGraw, Kathy Lohse. The annual fall festival was held Friday, October 15th. Starting the evenings events was the Sioux City Recreation Band under the direction of Dale Caris. The crowd then broke up and went in all directions to attend the various sideshows and events. You would wind your way into all corners of the gymnasium in which you participated in the follow- ing events: baseball throw, dart throw, free throw contest, sling shot booth, weight guessing contest, fish pond, and novelty stand. You then journied into the 2nd and 5rd grade room where you could win a beautiful cake on the cake walk. After departing from the gala array contained on the first floor, you meander to the medley of sideshows held in the classrooms. Midst these were the musical pantomine of the Ray Anthony Show and the bubble dancers in connection with the dancing dolls. Following this you trace the shouts coming from the assembly where you viewed several boxing bouts. Now it is time for the highlight of the evening. A hushed silence falls over the audience as the announcement of the king and queen draws near. The result? The Freshmen reign with the Seniors close seconds. All and all, the carnival was a big success. We took in 31002.00 disbursements amounted to S202.S9, thus making 3799.11 our profit. Y 4 -,hmm ,. Wm A M .. ' i . K K if , 5 . The typing was done by the Senior typing class under Mr. Reynold's supervision. Under new management, the name was changed to the Climbing Hill Zephyr. Almost every member of the staff had their turn at writing an editorial. We are proud to say that most of us became accomplished stencil typists before the year was over. On September 1, we started our annual Curtis Magazine Sales.Marilyn Christ- ensen and Norma Lohse were the cap- tains of the two teams,Margaret Cass- en was the general manager. Norma's team composed of the 7th,9th and llth grades, won the race. We sold 3598.50 of magazines,of which 3114.17 was our share. Marcia Loyd, a 7th grader, was high salesman. On October 20, we had our first pro- gram from the University of Kansas. It was the Punchenello Puppet Show. During the year we also had a music- ical program by Pat and Sally, and a play entitled 'Sweethearts.' Every student who wished to attend was charged a small fee. to Morningside to participate in the annual band festival. We were very proud to wear our band uniforms for the first time at a band festival. On February 21, the voice festival was held also in Morningside at Allee Gymnasium. The Activity Banquet was held Tuesday April 5. The band played, and special numbers were given before the banquet The address was given by Wayne Cooley from Des Moines.
