Q 0 Carnwal The carnlval IS the most excltmg event of the year The students work luke beavers and hawks for days before the carmval selling tlckets and gettmg thmgs ln shape for the event The mormng of the carnival Frlday Ocotober Z3 the Freshmen and Seniors were un the fmals It was neck and neck for a while but ln the photo fmxsh the Semors took the lead Carolyn Christensen and Ronme Mlchener were crowned Kung and Queen The curtam ralser for the evemng was a one act play johnny s Growxng Palns From this the crowds filled the halls overflowmg mto the cakewalk lunch counter musxcal boxmg and varlous side shows Proceeds of the evemng amounted to S785 99 After expenses were paxd S611 82 was put in the Act1v1ty Fund and from thls the purchase of a new txme clock lh the gym and boys new basketball sults were purchased Christy Hollinger Carol Stemhauer Cathy Davls Helen Wlllets, Frances Schmke, Patrxcla Green, Carolyn Christensen, Ronme Mxchener, Bobby Arnold, Richard Schwanke, Frank Cash, Norman Yanacheak, Mark Cornels, Kathleen Warner 0 . 0 Q c, J 'CQ '

Tlme whlch has formerly been spent on Declarnatxon was used for debates and panel des cusslons ln speech class the entlre class part1c1pat1ng We also spent seven weeks 1n learn ing to streamllne our readlng durmg English and speech classes The purpose ln life is to be able to adjust ourselves eas1ly and smoothly The more you read the more mfor mat1on you are able to gather The more efflclently you read the more ground you are able to cover 1n any area The more knowledge you have about different subjects the more interesting person you ll become Good readlng offers an important avenue for gaining social recogmtlon and approval of others We read from books three days a week and from fllms two days Each day a comprehension test was taken Some of the slowest readers read 100 words or less a mlnute when they week they were reading 300 words a mlnute to begin w1th and flnlshed up reading 1800 2000 words a mmute This program was put out by the Umversxty of Iowa wxth the arm of making better readers of good readers and helprng the slow readers to 1m prove This also helped your vocabulary and made you conscious of alot of wasted time in reading small words and non essentxal phrases Ik lk On january 25 twelve band members attended the Woodbury County Band Festival m Allee Gym Over 500 students participated The jr Hxgh tournament was held at Hornlck the week of February 15 Semor Career Day bro t Semors from 15 schools ln the county to C H111 Apr1l 5th Guest speaker for the occaslon was Roy Bryan Ph D of Iowa State College Ames Iowa lk?
