MISS CLIMAX RIDES IN CHRISTMAS PARADE Virginia Watson, Miss Climax 1963-64, is shown just before the annual Christmas Parade in Chatham. HONORS AND AWARDS STATE WINNERS IN CREATIVE WRITING C ONTEST D.A.R. AWARD The seniors and faculty elected Sandra Ander- son to receive the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award given by the J oseph Gravely Chapter for 1963-64. . Sandra. has participated in many clubs and activities at Climax, and she has enjoyed wide success in her high school career. Climax High School students won the state trophy awarded to first place winners in the creative writing contest for 1962-63. The students, from LEFT TO RIGHT, are: Gayle Mayhew, Poem; Lois Finney, Poem; Faye Quarles, Short Story; Mrs. Berger, English Teacher; BarbaraWat- son, Essay; Mildred Thornton, Essay; Martha Ann George, Short Story.

EVENTS OF OUR YEAR On December 20, 1963, we had refresh- As ahighlight of the day, we had a surprise ments in the lunchroom before we started visit from Santa Claus E. J . Davidt. our Christmas Vacation. Committees from the schools involved met to decide on the final choices for mascot, ring, and colors. The committee from Climax, appointed by Mr. Littlejohn, was composed of Betty Shelton, J ohnny Turner, and Gayle Neal. The seventh through the eleventh grades voted on the mascot, colors, and ring to be used at Chatham next year. The new Chatham High School which is under construction - many of our students will go there nextyear and the rest will go to Gretna.

But to take their place will be many groups of elementary students, such as these, eager to fill their minds and hearts with the knowledge and spirit of Climax. To these students we leave the rich heritage of Climax High School with the hope that they will love and cherish her ideals as we have. 57
