AciUutie4 There are many ways in which young people may be educated to become good citizens. Our school may be the smallest in the county but Climax students have done well in county, district, and state competition; which shows that Climax students are good and the school is strong. Miss Betty Riddle, of the class of 1954, received first place in the state of Virginia Wildlife Essay Contest. Betty received a $50 check, a 200 year old Aztec Indian bracelet and atrip to Richmond for her and her mother. Betty is shown receiving her prize from Governor Stanley. Horace Towler won a $75 savings bond for second place in the Danville Junior Tobacco Show and Sales Con- test. He also won third prize in the State Junior Tobacco Show and Sales Contest. He was presented his prizes by Mr. J.F. Blair, countyagent. Carl Thornton accomplishments have been so many that we can hardly list them all here. Under the guidance of Mr. Dunnavant, he has been a leader in the F.F.A. activities. He receiveda medal forCounty Public Speaking Contest for 1955. He served as Presidentand Vice-President of the Pittsylvania County Federation of the F.F.A. and represented the county at the National F.F.A. Con- vention in Kansas City. Shelby Jean Jefferson was elected from Climax as secretary to the Beta Club County Federation and reporter to the FHA District Federation.
