SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Dusk was descending on the beautiful scene of Greenfield Park, Wilmington, North Carolina. No scene could have been lovelier tohuman eyes than the rolling acres of colorful azalea bushes. Drinking in the beauty of the flowers I realized graduation would soon be here and I still had the class prophecy to write. Having not the faintest idea what to write I dreamily touched a cluster of the fragrcnt blossoms. The blossoms began to speak saying, Trouble thyself no longer for we will carry you into a land where you will be hailed as a noble prophetess and will be given the power to foretell all things concerning your classmates. It was so misty in this strange land to which I had been carried, I couldn ' t see, but I could hear the magic notes of Moonlight Sonata that filled the air. Beethoven ' s message to his immortal lover was drowned by a voice in Washington. Suddenly all the mist cleared and 1 could see Alton DeBoe on the floor of the Senate. It ' s Hawaii and it ' s Nancy Allen singing Aloha . Nancy is teaching commercial and having herself a marvelous time with all the handsome men that come to the islands vacationing, includ- ing Charleton Heston. The notes of music were broken by the sound of a razor. Ralph Frazier is in the barber business and becoming very prosperous. I heard the squeaking oftires asa car stops in the driveway; It ' s Quitman Arthur hurrying home from work to see his wife, the former Miss Thelma Cassidy. Softly the organ is playing Lohengrin for Betty Lou Hammock to march down the aisle in her gown of white mousseline de soire, to marry the man she dreamed she would. Carl Thornton is giving a speech to the Climax Ruritans, of which he is president; Carl has a farm , but no wife . The good looking blonde hostess stepping off United Airlines and going to a blue Ford is Lorene Chism. Buford is still waiting while Lorene has a crush on the pilot. Averette Osborne is still playing hillbilly music and has a Saturday night barn dance. The beautiful place is Sweetbriar College where Glenn Shelton is teaching dancing to the soc iety snobs . It ' s Westover Field; the man on the microphone is saying, Eastern Airlines in and out every five minutes. The tall handsome pilot getting into his plane and taking off on the runway is Sterling Camden . Julian Ferguson is a stock car racer and wins every time. Nancy Lee Watson is a nurse in Paris, the city of love. She is having her youthful fling in the city, though she gets letters every day to return to this side of the Atlantic. Aided by the moonlight I could look upon the deck of a ship, where a lovely lady in a cham- pagne gown was dancing with a handsome man. The lady is Shelby Jefferson who is the ship ' s nurse; yes, it ' s the ship ' s doctor, whom Shelby will marry when they dock at New York. The notes of Moonlight Sonata awaked me and to my surprise I wasstill in Wilmington and the music was floating through the air from the club. BETTY LOU HAMMOCK
