Class Prophecy On the evening of June 11, 1964, my mind was in a daze remembering June 11, 1954, when I had received my high school diploma. My mind had left Beverly Hills, California, where I was Esther Williams’ secretary, to Climax, Virginia, and those dear old classmates. I knew I must stop dream- ing and get into the house and get dressed to attend the premiere with Esther of her new movie, “Queen of the waters.” As we greeted friends, I still remained in my daze of remembering “school days at Climax. “ The usher led us to our seats as I was dreaming the role each of my classmates was playing in life. Then my ears heard familiar voices and on the screen my eyes saw; Patsy Ann Watson has resigned her position as secretary to become a happy housewife. Randall Moore has settled down with a family and has a steady job. Barbara Haskins is working as a telephone operator and still looking for a man. W. G. Finney, through with college, is preaching the Bible. Ten years have passed and Tommy Law is still knocking clods and fussing about tobacco. Melvin Blair is flying a jet plane over Flip and his dairy farm. James Rogers Adkins is flying a jet plane in the U. S. Air Force. Betty Sue Hodges broke the record by being the first girl to enter Washington and Lee University Law School. After several years of success- ful practice of law she was elected Governor of Virginia. She is expected to appoint former classmates to high positions in the state. Betty Jane Riddle is married and trying to keep up with all the society clubs in the community. Doris Barbour is trying to keep Junior from crying while her husband is preaching. Dolores Martin is still single and working every day at her position as secretary at Washington, D. C. Nelson Gibson is running a dairy farm in the winter and playing short- stop for the Cleveland Indians in the summer. Iris Mahan is a nurse at an Army Hospital, and doing one certain captain some good. Louise Crews has stopped nursing at Walter Reed Hospital to set up housekeeping near Climax. Carroll McCrickard has been driving a school bus to Climax for the last ten years. He no longer has to skip school to take the bus to the shop. Jean Craddock is one of the head Democrats in Virginia and is teaching political history at Washington and Lee University. She is beginning to shape up her campaign for the U. S. Senate race in July. C. D. Cook is running against her on the Republican ticket. Jane Watson is Esther Williams’ secretary and living in lovely Beverly Hills, California.
