Class Mist or y We have been here at Climax High for four years trudging along, acquiring the fundamentals of education and the art of living with ourselves and with one another. It hasn’t been bad because we have had happy and gay times together. We have obeyed with meekness and humility the rules and regulations of our school. All worthwhile things are gained by a price. We have paid that price as we have written our history through the years. We entered the eighth grade with twenty-eight on roll. Mr. George Gibbs was our sponsor and Mr. Fred Reynolds was principal. In February, W. G. Finney enrolled in our class. Our class officers were: President — Melvin Blair, Vice-President — Jean Craddock, Secretary-Treasurer — Sylvia Terrill, and Reporter — Jimmy Rasberry. This was a year of getting ad- justed because we were the first eighth grade at Climax. The event we enjoyed most this year was our picnic. We got a half day holiday for this. In the ninth grade, Mrs. Elsie Blair was our sponsor and Mr. Reynolds was still our principal. We elected the following officers: President — Betty Jane Riddle, Vice-President — Randall Moore, Secretary-Treasurer — James Rogers Adkins, and Reporter — Carroll McCrickard. During the year, we gained Oralle Adkins and Douglas Pennington. We lost Morris Kendrick, Jimmy Rasberry, Bobby Adkins, Janice Chism, Sylvia Terrill, Geraldine Kendrick, and Sallie Belle Towler. Sallie came back before the year was over. This year, the clubs were open to us. We joined the Student Council, F.F.A., F.H.A., and the Beta Club. This was the first Student Council in Climax High. Many of us made the basketball teams. Again this year we took off a half day from school for our picnic. When we entered the tenth grade, several members of our class had dropped out. These were Douglas Pennington, Oralle Adkins, James Fer- guson, Julian Ferguson, Garnett Osborne, Ruby Wallace, and Frances Shel- ton. We gained Betty Sue Hodges. Mrs. Blair was our sponsor and Mr. Reynolds our principal. Our officers were: President — Shirley Shelton, Vice-President — W. G. Finney, Secretary-Treasurer — Tommy Law, Reporter —Louise Crews. This year our boys won the Group III County Basketball Championship. The F.H.A. gave the champions a banquet. We gave the seniors a banquet at the Danville Country Club. Our class had a picnic after school and went to the movie. We had cheerleaders for the first time this year. In the eleventh grade, we had Mrs. Blair as sponsor and Mr. Reynolds as principal. We lost Gladys Adkins and gained Dolores Martin and Nelson Gibson. The main event of this year was getting our class rings. Our class had a party at school. Our officers for this year were: President — Sallie Towler, Vice-President — Melvin Blair, Secretary-Treasurer — Barbara Has- kins, and Reporter — Tommy Law. Finally, we were seniors. The road that had seemed so endless was now coming to an end. We lost two members of our class, Sallie Towler and Shirley Shelton. Mrs. Blair was our sponsor. We had a new principal, Mr. W. W. Halligan, Jr. Our officers were: President — Patsy Ann Watson, Vice-President — Betty Jane Riddle, Secretary-Treasurer — Melvin Blair, and Reporter — Dolores Martin. We were all very excited about our invitations, caps, and gowns. Our biggest events were our annual, junior-senior ban- quet, and senior play. We chose as our motto: “Life Is A Picture, Paint It Well.” Our colors were blue and white and our flower, red rose. We shall always cherish the memories of the days we spent at Climax.
