I -vt 4 .3 , ,,, The Trojan Staff of 1952-53 respectfully dedicates this edition of THE TROJAN to Miss Blanche Baker, secretary of the Clifton Public Schools. Although a heavy responsibility rests upon her shoulders, she never tires of the demands, large and small, which are asked of her daily. Through her untiring efforts in helping students and facul- ty members, she has won admiration and friendship. Her quiet manner, pleasant personality, and prompt, efficient service are definite assets to our school. We feel honor- ed in having this opportunity to express our appreciation for her co-operative assistance at Clifton High School. flntld- 1-5 fave-f' ,yd ,zwwfffn , FOREWORD it i' 1 v f We, the Trojan Staff of 1952-53, take great pleasure in presenting our yearbook, THE TROJAN, to our fellow stu- dents, faculty members, parents, and friends of Clifton High School. For our theme, we have chosen Student Life in Clifton High School. We have made a sincere effort to bring to you a picture of our everyday school life, our activities, and our achievements. We have worked hard in gathering the material for this book and we sincerely hope that as you turn each page, you will think back of fond memories and feel one satis- faction--satisfaction in your past school year. It is our desire that our teachers, parents, and friends will look upon this book with pride. Without their guidance, we could not have compiled these pages in our book of memories. MERA SHY: RODERICK BROWN, DAVID PEREZ AND GAYLE SANDERS, SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The first thoughts of the 52 freshmen enrolling at C.H.S. in 1949 were concerned with initiation and the Freshman Welcome Dance which the sophomores conducted. The freshmen showed their ability by giving a pep assembly for one of the home football games. Later in the year the class gave the Freshman Return Dance in honor of the sophomores. Officers for the year were as follows: Johnny Barriga, Presidentg Jesus Pena, Vice-Presi- dentg Mary Ellen Torres, Secretaryg and Frank Sanchez, Treasurer. Mrs. Stella Cosper and Mr. Cecil Bickhart were the class sponsors. The class of '53 entered its second year in high school with revenge in mind. Initiation will long be remembered by the class of '54. The sophomores gave the freshmen the annual Welcome Dance the same day. The class won recognition later during the year with a Ma and Pa Kettle skit in the Big Show. As a sophomore, Earline Mullins was chosen to represent Clifton as the princess at the Salad Bowl in Phoenix. Officers were Mary Ellen Torres, Presidentg Gilbert Baron, Vice-Presidentg Carolyn Cislaghi, Secretary, and Bob McCusker, Treasurer. Class sponsors were Mrs. Cosper and Mr. James Elliott. The Junior Class felt quite important this year, for as juniors we were allowed to sell at the football games. Highlights of the year were the Junior- Senior Prom and the J unior-Senior Play. The prom theme was April Showers. The Junior-Senior Play was entitled Let Me Out of Here. Carolyn Cislaghi, Mike Grady, Pete Perez, and Armenia Ruiz were juniors chosen to be in the cast. Officers for the year were Vera Saenz, Presidentg Josephine Manuz, Vice-Presidentg Betty Walker, Secretaryg and Gilbert Baron, Treasurer. Class sponsors were Mrs. Cosper and Mr. Elliott. Sadly, yet triumphantly, the seniors marched to the beginning of their last year under the sponsorship of Mrs. Cosper and Mr. Kenneth McGuire. Among the many events that took place this year were Senior Day at the University of Arizona, the Junior-Senior Play, the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, and Senior Ditch Day. Nineteen seniors motored to Tucson to attend Senior Day on November 22. Geniece Barnes, Carolyn Cislaghi, Mike Grady, Josephine Manuz, Bob McCusker, Vera Saenz, John Spoon, and Betty Walker were in the cast of Adam's Evening, the J unior-Senior Play pre- sented on December 3. On January 1, Vera Saenz represented C.H.S. as princess to the Salad Bowl. The Junior-Senior Banquet and Senior Ditch Day were held in the spring. Officers for the year were Gilbert Baron, Presidentg Johnny Barriga, Vice-President, Carolyn Cislaghi, Secretaryg and Mary Ellen Torres, Treasurer. The Senior Class wishes to express its appreciation to Mrs. Cosper for her patience and effort in guiding the class through its four years of high school. The pathway has not always been easy to travel, but we have very enjoyable moments to recall. The main social event of this past year was the Junior-Senior Prom which was held on May 2. Funds for the event were raised by members of the class who sold at football games. The Junior Class has taken part in many activities--the Junior- Senior Play, band activities, Student Council, the Desert Song Staff, the Trojan Staff, and in all sports. With each class member of 1954 doing his part, we hope to make next year--our senior year--the most remembered year at Clifton High. 1511. - av' 4 X gg, ix Q l g i , Xu X, WK r ' -Q X x R KSN 4 X r Ny, .
