Text from Pages 1 - 112 of the 1950 volume:

oreword The 1950 Trojan is presented to you, the students of C. H. S., with the hope that it will keep alive the cherished memories of your experiences here. The theme of this year's Trojan is Hands —hands that help us in our daily work—hands that are joined to- gether in friendship—hands with the power to create—hands with which to fashion the future. In previous years art work was the medium by which the theme was presented. This year pho- tography has been used exclusively. This annual was edited especially for you, and we of the staff hope you will like it. t)edication For her untiring efforts in building up the character and self-reliance of the students, for unselfishly devoting her time in making this annual pos- sible, we, the Senior Class of 1950, dedicate this annual to Caroline Lauer, with deep gratitude. In September of 1947, fifty bewildered Freshmen entered the halls of C. H. S. not knowing what was ahead but willing to face whatever they might meet. The first activity they met was the traditional initiation. The freshmen, return dance was given during the latter part of the year. Officers for that year were: Presi- dent, Raul Chavarria; Vice-President, Dolores Holguin; Secretary, Ernesto Cast- aneda; Treasurer, Frank Murillo. Mrs. Downs acted as sponsor. Pushing forward they came to their Sophomore year. At the beginning of the year a revengeful initiation was held and was followed by the “Freshmen Welcome” dance. The class was led by: President, Raul Chavarria; Vice-President, Dolores Holguin; ‘Secretary, Natalia Castaneda; Treasurer, Ernesto Castaneda. Sponsor for the year was Mr. McGuire. Still stepping upward they came to their Junior year. The most important event was the Junior-Senior Prom. Funds for this occa sion were raised by selling hot dogs, pop-corn, and cokes at football games. The Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet was held on May 14 with the auditorium attractively decorated to the theme of Moonlight and Roses. Class officers were: President, Roger Verdugo; Vice-President, Bill Anderson; Secretary, Natalia Castaneda; Treasurer, Deanie Bowman. Sponsors were Miss Meyer and Mr. McGuire. The class now reached its goal, long awaited by all members as they entered the halls of C. H. S. for their final year. This term for the first time in several years a Senior Ball was held on October 29. Fun was had by all with a Halloween theme. The Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet was held April 15. Both proved to be very successful. The customary Senior Ditch Day was held on May 8 and was greatly enjoyed by all the Seniors. Class officers were: President, Bill Anderson; Vice-President, Andrew Brown; Secretary, Raymon Tavison; Treasurer, Imogene Romisch. Miss Meyer and Mr. McGuire were sponsors. As the class of 1950 look back to the good old days and says goodbye to the halls of C. H. S., they wait for the time when they will receive their diplomas'and step into the world where each will take his own road hoping for the best in the future. .A C. JJ. S. ESQUIEL TURJILLO President WILLIAM LAWSON Vice-President CECELIA GONZALES Treasurer CANDELARIA SANDOVAL Secretary THE JUNIOR CLASS There were 54 Juniors that entered the halls of C. H. S. looking forward to the year’s events. The class was well repre- sented in sports and clubs. The highlight of the year was the prom which was held on April 15. Money for this big event was raised by selling cokes, hot dogs, and candy bars at the football games. Junior Trujillo, President; William Lawson, Vice-President; Cecilia Gonzales, Secretary; and Candy Sandoval, Treasurer were officers for the year. Mr. Sturgeon and Mr. Cislaghi were sponsors. 7 — j iAi r Sharlene Barnes Marshall Burgess Frances Chavarria Virginia Gonzales Juan Barriga Velma Caballero William Flaherty Mary Jean Greenwade Robert Barriga Dalia Calderon Alvin Fritz James Hagan Tony Boling Amelia Campos Leonard Garrett Jimmy Hernandez JhoSe ddriendfif juniori Jdave Jdelped Nellie Johnson Manuel Lopez Gilbert Madrid Mary Hernandez Arnaldo Martinez Betty Lou McLaughlin Archie McMillan Carmen Morales Roger Morones Pat Mow Rita Murillo Ray Nafarrate John Nelson Ramona Olivas Rosie Pena Esperanza Sanchez Pete Sanchez Lucy Saenz Gwendolyn Simms Rafael Scott Charles Shaw Margaret Delgado Barbara Smith Ella Vandruff — 'Ohe Soph ,omore Sophomore Class Officers and Sponsors: Left to right: Richard McCusker, Cecilia Chavez, Mr. Patton, Melsina Scott, Miss Vickers, Charles Spezia.
