We must now set out upon an even more important mission-that of making a success of our lives in our chosen careers. Our yearbook, in later years, will undoubtedly serve to remind us of one another and of the happy, carefree days we spent together at Clifton High. 4 Dedication ITH SINCERE APPRECIATION, WE, THE CLASS OF JUNE, I945, DEDI- CATE OUR YEARBOOK TO OUR MANY TEACHERS AT CLIFTON HIGH SCHOOL. EVERY STUDENT DOES NOT COME INTO PERSONAL CONTACT WITH EVERY TEACHER, BUT WITHOUT THEIR INDIVIDUAL HELP AND COMBINED EFFORTS, OUR HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS WOULD HAVE HAD LITTLE CHANCE OF SUCCESS. WITH THIS IN MIND, WE WISH TO THANK THEM FOR ALL T. IEY HAVE DONE FOR US. 5 GEORGE J. SMITH Superintendent Dear Seniors, OU are now approaching the last lap of your high school course. We earnestly trust that the education you have gleaned to da-te has not only trained you for a definite job in life but has attempted to give you something infinitely more important to the future culture and greatness of these United States, namely an education that is liberal and democratic, intellectual and cultural, coherent and philosophical, not a mere accumulation of facts but rather an encouragement to search assiduously for knowledge, truth and understanding. Wishing you God's choicest blessings in the years to come, Very sincerely yours, SUPERINTENDENT. HAROLD J, ADAMS Principal in li HARRY J. To us, this building seemed vast, its rooms spacious, and the thought of seven periods a day was almost too much to bear. After a few weeks had elapsed, we began to acquaint our- selves with, and to enjoy, activities during and after school. Our classes, various clubs, weekly dances, and the school newspaper kept us both busy and happy. On Monday, December 8, a feeling of anxiety was present, not only at school but throughout the nation, for on Sunday, December 7, the Japanese had bombed our naval base at Pearl Harbor. Now, more than ever, we stu- dents felt that we must prepare ourselves to carry our share of responsibility. Selling war stamps and bonds, collecting waste paper and scrap metal, and working for the Red Cross were only a few of the war-time activities in which we participated. Before we knew it, the remainder of our freshmen year had passed, and the summer vacation was upon us. On a very rainy day in September, l94Z, our sophomore year began at the main building. l-t didn't take long to add the ringing telephone to our daily schedule, and we knew that whenever it rang, one of us was wanted in the office. lElevator passes ten cents.l ln addition to school work, many of our classmates were finding part time employment. lUndoubtedly, the boys were saving for the Prom.l During the second week of our junior year, we held our first class meet- ing. At this time, the following class officers were elected: S Robert Daniels . . . . .President Olga David . . . Vice-President Doris Andreotta . . . Secretary Barbara Hellegers . . . Treasurer 52 Under the guidance of our sponsors, Miss Mills and Miss Johnson, our class officers began planning for the Junior Prom. After every detail had been taken care of, the big night arrived. The formal attire made us realize that we were young men and women, and no longer adolescents. Time marches on! February had already passed, and the spring was here with the budding flowers and budding romances. June approached rapidly, and with it came some of the most difficult examinations ever put before stu- dents. After struggling through them, we were ready for a well-earned rest. Seniors at last! lSeptember, I944, and in the meantime, we had sold back the elevator passes purchased in l942l. A class meeting was held, and once again, class officers were elected: Julius Tibolla ...... . . President Ann Kuypers . . VicefPresident Florence Nikovits . . . .Secretary Dolores Fette . . . . ....... Treasurer The outstanding event of our 4-l semester was the Senior Dance. How it rained that night! Remember? However, despite the inclement weather, the dance was a great success. Soon we were 4-2's, confronted with Shake- speare's Macbeth , Senior Chorus, and the Yearbook. We strove now, harder -than ever before, to pass and to have eighty-four credits necessary for graduation. At a 4-2 class meeting, our last election was held. Jifus Tibolla, Florence Nikovits, and Dolores Fette were reelected. James Mullen was elected our new vice-president. Joseph Jaskiewicz was appointed editor of the yearbook. The months went by rapidly, February, March, April, May -and then June and graduation. Although we have our diplomas, we shall always remember our high school years. How can anyone forget some of those days-classes that were cut, school dances, Clifton's victorious football and basketball teams, and all those romances! V 53 E Who's Who Q ..
