H. S. football history. Their record at the end of the season showed eleven wins and one loss, the lone loss being to Paducah in Regional play. The Cubs started the '54 campaign with an 81 to '7 win over Kemp. Meridian fell before the Cubs by a 39 to 7 score and Valley Mills was conquered 50 to O. This marked the second straight win for the Cubs over the Eagles. Clifton opened district warfare against Mansfield and prevailed 51 to 0. In the next game against Midlothian, the Cubs jumped to an early lead, but the Panthers came roaring back and Clifton escaped with a well-eamed 20 to 13 win. The Cubs won their sixth straight game of the season when they defeated Granbury 28 to 0. Bob Lane turned in the greatest one-game scoring performance of the season in Central Texas when he scored seven touchdowns in the Cubs' 70 to 14 rout of Alvarado. The toughest foe on the schedule now loomed before the Cubs in the form of the Itasca Wampus Cats. P. D. Wallace proved to be the difference as he gained 190 yards rushing and Clifton won 12 to 0. The Cubs disposed of their last two district opponents, Joshua and Glen Rose, and reigned as District 11-A Champs for the third straight year, In the state playoffs, the Cubs defeated Richardson 12 to 7 for the Bi-District title and then met the Paducah Dragons for the Regional crown. Clifton took the lead early in the game, but yielded it before the half and went down by a score of 52 to 20, When the All-District selections were made at the end of the season, Clifton placed three players - Jerry Cash, Bob Lane and P. D. Wallace - on the first team. Harry Cash, Fred Ludwig and Dan Jameson were on the second team. Wallace was named the Best Back and The Most Valuable Player in the district. Coach Kuehl was named Coach of the year. P. D, Wallace received still another honor when he was named to the second team All-State Team selected by the Texas Sports Writers Association. The '54 grid season came to an end at the annual Awards Banquet, at which time the team and coaches were honored and the co-captains, Tek Outlaw and Harry Cash, were named. Y b QQ!
