[ 12 ] Senior Class Mis tor y We, the senior class of 1946, started on our journey through high school when we entered dear old C. F. H. S. in September, 1942. As freshmen our thoughts turned mostly to falling in step with the upper-classmen. However, we selected the following to lead us through our first year: president, Bobby Glover; secretary, Joyce Ailstock, and treasurer, Betty Jean Gilmer. We chose Miss VanHorn as our sponsor. Our outstanding memories during this year were our initiation assembly program and our very own Halloween dance given to us by the seniors. When another year had rolled around, we found ourselves sophisticated sophomores. To start our second year off right, we organized and chose as our leaders: Sonny Scott, president; Bobby Glover, vice president; Betty Ann Smith, treasurer, and Joyce Ailstock, secretary. Miss Katherine Sprinkle was chosen as our sponsor. As sophomores, we bought a lovely United States flag, which we presented to the school. The entire class also spent a most enjoyable time at a picnic at Bean’s. With a sigh of relief, we entered our junior year. This year brought us much pleasure and many pleasant memories. It was during this semester that we worked with much enthusiasm and delight for the coming year. W e elected Bobby Glover, president; Caroline ’ia, vice president; Jean McSherry, secretary, and Leigh Showalter, treasurer. W e selected Miss Alary Catherine Clancy as our sponsor. In the fall, we ordered our senior rings. We also gave a musical assembly dedi- cated to the seniors. Planning for the junior-senior prom was the highlight of our junior year. Everyone worked hard, raising money to cover expenses, cleaning the auditorium, and helping in every way possible. For the night of the prom, we -decorated the stage with the senior colors, white and blue, and a ceiling with the moon and stars in the background. Gordon Chappel’s orchestra furnished the music with one of our own seniors, Sara Lee Lam, as vocalist. Everyone seemed to enjoy the prom, we juniors as well as the seniors. The rest of our junior year was given over to ushering and decorating for the seniors’ commencement exercises. This we did willingly for we wished to give the seniors a year which they would remember and cherish. When 1945 rolled around, we sighed to think that we were finally dignified seniors. This year we selected Bobby Cahoon as president, Joe Hutcheson as vice president, Jean AlcSherry as secretary, and Randolph Kennedy as treasurer. W e chose as our co-sponsors, Aliss anHorn and Airs. Evelyn Alatthews. Our first important memory during this year is that of the annual Halloween dance which we gave for the freshmen. We then turned our attention to our senior play. We chose a comedy, “That Crazy Smith Family.” We started working hard right after mid-term examina- tions and presented our play later on in the season. Other highlights of our senior year were the senior banquet and the junior- senior prom. After this, we turned our thoughts to study, looking forward to that wonderful day when we shall receive our diplomas. [ 13 ] Senior Superlatives Most Popular. . Best Look i II . . Our armies rolled to victory on tires of rayon eord. Now, the peaee- time motorists of Ameriea are Rolling on Rayon”, too. This new market needs sturdy yams that make tires safer, run cooler, wear longer. The fashion market requires fine yarns that make beautiful, dainty, luxurious fabrics for women’s apparel. Because rayon has the flexibility to meet the demands of such widely different applications, it has grown rapidly and the future holds many hit; things in store. Rayon is a staple product; it knows no season. Those who work in this industry know they can count on steady employment year after year and the community benefits from this stabilizing influence. One pleasant i ote supplements the original plan and involves the ladies only, Dolores Lawler Stevens would like to invite all of the ladies who are in town Friday, August 7, 1959, to play bridge at her house that evening. This, of course, includes wives of ' i+Oers as well as female class members. Since Dolores describes bridge as something to do with your hands while you talk , you can see that this is really a get=reacquainted warm-up for Satur- day, Think it over and we will ask for a show of hands when vie take the final count for other reunion events.
