Our history began when we entered C. F. H. S. in 1941. While Freshmen we did not think of many serious undertakings as a class. However, we did choose BettyeLou Stratton, president, M. P. Lawrence, vice president; Barbara Westerman, secretary; and Julia Emmett, treasurer. M iss Kyle Carson was chosen as our sponsor. At the one and only meeting of the Freshmen Class we decided to fill a basket for a needy family at Christmas time. The class as a whole took part in filling the basket, and Bettye Lou Stratton, Sylvia Cantrell, and Barbara Westerman were appointed as a committee to take the basket to the family. With a sigh of relief we entered our second year as sophisticated Sophomores. We selected Everett Tucker as president; Jean Showalter, vice president; Sue Hutcheson, secretary; and Bobby Caines, treasurer. This year we chose Miss Dorothy Harrington as our sponsor. Our most pleasant memory of our Sophomore year is a successful comedy, entitled the Pot Boilers given for assembly by the more dramatic members of the class. Those taking part were: Shandy Holland, Clyde Woodson, Sylvia Cantrell, AI. P. Lawrence, Bettye Lou Stratton, Elizabeth Ann Craft, and Alary Durvin. Our Junior year brought us much pleasure. Everyone worked hard, but it was one of our gay and glorious times. We elected Ben Goode, president; A ' L P. Lawrence, vice president; Bobby Caines, secretary; and Bettye Lou Stratton, treasurer. We also elected Miss Mary Ellen Smith as our sponsor. The Junior assembly of the year was dedicated to the Seniors. In the Spring of 1944, we ordered our Senior rings. It was during this year that many of the Juniors of an English class wrote an original radiologue on the life of Edgar Allan Poe and presented it over WKEY. Our greatest pleasure was planning for the Junior-Senior Prom. Everyone worked hard, helping with rummage sales, bake sales, pay dances and coke sales, trying to raise funds enough to make the prom a big success and “highlite” in the Seniors’ last year. A new color scheme of pastel shades was chosen for decorating the auditorium. We were fortunate in getting the Ash- ford Generals, an orchestra composed of soldiers from the Ashford General Hospital. The Seniors were pleased and delighted with the Prom, which was reward enough for our efforts. With this we concluded our pleasant year as Juniors. Then 1945 rolled around and at last we were dignified Seniors. We chose Ben Goode, president; M. P. Lawrence, vice president; Bettye Lou Stratton, secretary, and Bobby Caines, treasurer. We once again chose Miss Mary Ellen Smith as our sponsor. Miss Smith entertained the Seniors, October 13, 1944, with a wiener roast at the American Legion Hut. The annual Halloween Dance for the Freshmen was given, October 27, by the Seniors. Wings Over Washington was the Senior Play. Bobby Haynes, Straughn Burks, Everett Tucker, Billy S titeler, David Hartsook, Alassie Liptrap, and George Rumpf are some from “ Class of ’45 ” who are now in the service. Due to the efforts of some of the interested members of the Senior Class, Student Govern- ment was organized. The Alleghanian, our school annual, was backed by the Senior Class. We, the Seniors of 1945, do get great pleasure from our History and we all hope that the memory will live with you as it will with us. The day of the Prom everyone was excited and the stage was beautifully decorated. After all the excitement of the Prom was over our thoughts turned to the long-cherished and much dreamed of night when we receive our diplomas. Sara F. It is at this point in our process that a liquid is forced through tiny holes into a chemical hath and sol- idifies into filaments of rayon yarn. By changing the number and size of the holes we can make yarn of different sizes and characteristics. We can, with certain limitations, produce a made-to-order yarn, to meet given specifications. This remarkable property of ver- satility has been one of the basic reasons for the rayon industry’s rapid growth and for the wide variety of military uses rayon has been able to fulfill in war time. Four years ago it was considered a fiber of fashion. Today, through war-time demands, this man-made fiber has demonstrated its ability to make tough fabrics as well as beautiful fabrics and its post-war opportunities in industrial applica- tions are just beginning to unfold. To young men and women, rayon offers a wonderful future— a chance to work with miracles, a chance to share in the progress our company is destined to make. If you are not going to college, we have openings now we would be happy to discuss with you. If college is your goal, ray- on offers exceptional opportunities for careers in chemistry, engineer- ing and business administration.
