For three con- secutive years, each Senior Class of Clifton Forge High School has published a volume of The Allegiianian, thus leaving a written record of the activities of its menihers. Just as the historians render a valuable service to civilization, so do the classes which ])nblish these volumes attempt to render a service to Clifton Forge High School. The advertisers, the clubs, the classes, and the faculty have helpefl in man ' ways to make this volume possible. As a token jf a])i)reciation, the Class of 1937 has placed stars on the advertisements to indicate the number of prcvi(.)us volumes which have been heli)ed by these firms, h’uture classes may make this customary so that the advertisers may feel that they are being remembered, d ' he Class of 1937 ho])es that all future volumes of The Alleghanian will have the same hue cooperation which has been given this one l)y the clubs, the classes, and the faculty. Having paused to exjmess its ap])reciation to those who have made this volume possible, the Class of 1937 now continues in its etfort to leave a written record of the activities of its members. Lhe officers were Joe Thomas, president, Norma Ramplin, vice-presidoit, Brent Miller, secretary . and Charles Hutcheson, treasurer. The class selected a motto, flower, and colois. Soon the Junior pins were ordered. In November of 1935, the class made its debut at a i)arty in the auditorinm. Various games and dancing j.)rovided the entertainment. 1 his party was the begin- ning of a long series of social events for the Class of 937 - In January, the girls entertained the hoys with a delightful “Leap Year ])arty. The boys enjoyed being “rushed by the girls. The most elaborate affair of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom which took place on March 20. The decorations and refreshments were green and white, the colors of St. Patrick’s Day. To the strains of the music of the Merrimakers, the Juniors formed the figure “1936” in honor of their guests. The Prom was a great success. In May, the Senior rings were selected in order that they might l)e received at the beginning of the fall semester. The class also elected Miss Fliess as its Senior Sponsor. As a climax to a happy year, the class had a picnic su])]:)er at Camp Twilldo. The first of the many events which made the Senior year one to he remembered always, was a picnic at Carpenters’ Cam]i on Seidemher 18. In October a Hal- lowe’en party was given in the auditorium. On November 20, the Senior play, “Tomboy,” was presented to a large crowd. The play was very capalily presented and was thoroughly enjoyed by evervajne. On December 4, the class had a party which began at the Masonic Theatre where the movie “Rose Bowl” was seen and ended at P ' arrar’s where “Jeep” music and sundaes were enjoyed. To reciprocate for the “Leap Year” party given by the girls, the hoys gave the girls a party in January. Continuing the policy of having a social affair each month, the class had another enjoyable party on PYbruary 19, following an exciting basket- hall victory over Covington. As The Alleghanian goes to the ])nl)lishers, the class is anticipating the happy events of the coming months. The Junior-Senior Prom, a school dance sponsored by the Seniors, an elaborate dinner dance, and many other affairs will be held. Thus the sixty-seven members of the thirtieth class to be graduated from the Clifton Forge High School are approaching the end of a delightful, profitable, and eventful period in their lives — their happy school days ! 2,3 WHKN WE WERE ’ERV Y(JUNG ' ’ irlif Seven ' ' When We Were Very Young ' Previous ])ages have presented the memljers of the Class of 1937 as they are today. During the 1936-1937 session, the regular sports continued to make good progress and several new ones were added to the ])rogram. The football team hnished its season with five victories and two defeats, d ' his record gave the district championshi]) title to the Mountaineers hut, in the final decision of the Virginia Literary and Athletic League, the title went to Covington. I ' he boys’ basketball team made a gcKxl record — nine victories and three defeats. The girls’ basketball games were an added attraction at the boys’ games. The track and baseball teams have excellent material and should be very successful this spring. Tennis, too, may find a place on the program of spring sports. For the first time, boxing and wrestling teams are now l)eing developed by Mr. Carper. Thus, the boys ha ' e a large variety of sports. The girls organized softball and volley ball teams last fall. They are planning to play again this spring. At present, the girls do not have a physical training teacher and their ambition to have a variety of winning teams has not yet been realized. In all their efforts, the girls deserve much credit for their fine sportsmanship. 37 Ofttecjli ecj nariLan Boys ' Basketball Charles Van Lear Captain Bobby Sachs Manager Vr. Kay Coach GAVl LS C. F.
