MOUNTAIN ECHO TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION ..................................... 2 FACULTY ........................................ 4 SENIORS ....................................... 12 UNDERCLASSMEN ................................. 17 ACTIVITIES .................................... 42 SPORTS ........................................ 55 STUDENT LIFE .................................. 68 INDEX ......................................... 93 CLIFTON-FINE CENTRAL SCHOOL STAR LAKE,NEW YORK 13690 VOLUME XL Back By Popular Demand The one thing we will remember most when we leave Clifton- Fine is the energy we felt when we walked into room 216 as juniors. The teacher in that room was Mr. John Perrault, the one whom we decided to dedicate this year's yearbook to. Mr. Perrault is not only our teacher, but he is also our friend. Mr. Perrault has been with Clifton-Fine for twenty years and has done a lot for us during fhe time in which he has known us, both in and out of the classroom. Fie has taught us English and maybe even a few other things, trying to get us to do our best. Fie always gives his extra time to help students write a paper, and he even makes the dullest grammar assignment exciting. The energy he shows in his classroom is enough to make any student want to learn. But Mr. Perrault is there when we are not in the classroom. Outside of class, he is just like our best friend. Fie is there cheering us on whether it is for baseball, basketball, or anything else students may do. Fie is also there to give moral support, advice, or just a friendly smile to make the day a little brighter. From the Class of '89, we thank you for your time and energy to make us the best we could be and we will always remember you, J.P.I! This is just one of the many stepping stones in their future. This year Mrs. Dana will teach these fourth graders French. Most of these students do not know a word in French, so this will be a bit of a challenge. They will be learning how to say everyday words such as the numbers, months, days of the week and common salutations. Challenges like these make fourth grade exciting and will make them want to learn more French in fifth grade, and someday maybe they will visit France. I HATE THIS CLASS! These are familiar words in yearbook class, especially around deadline times, But few of us ever actually leave. The class gives us pressure, responsibility, opportunity, and freedom. Why else would we put in these long hours after school when we are all hungry and have three hours of homework awaiting us when we get home? It is because of the challange that working on the yearbook gives us. There I sit on the cold, hard bench as I watch my soccer team battle it out with another team. It starts to rain and the wind blows, making us bench warmers even colder. We pile onto ourselves all the jackets that were left on the bench by the “starters . Once in a while a benchwarmer goes into the game to give a starter a rest. The first half goes by and some of the benchwarmers haven't gone in yet. I am one of them I move down the bench to give one of the starters room to sit down. My father's words echo in my mind. The only way you'll get hurt in this game is if you get a sliver! I know he was only kidding, but it is the sad truth. Two thirds of the way through the game, I hear the coach telling me to get my warm-ups off. Oh, boy. this is it! He tells me who to go in for and gives me d few pointers. I'm going in as fullback, the position I've played since 7th grade. I walk over to the table to report in. I have to wait for the ball to go out of bounds. There it goes, but it's off our team. Only subs from the other team can go in. Goal kick! I can go in now. The ball is at the other end of the field, so all I have to do is look like I know what I'm doing. It seems like fullbacks are always hoping that the line will make a mistake, willing them to. just so we have a chance to make a play Here comes the ball. On my side, too! I start running up towards it. but-no-a halfback kicks it back up to the line. Better luck next time. I take a few steps back so I'm not up too far and it sails over my head. That would be dangerous unless the center fullback is backing me up. The ball is coming my way again. I jog toward it. not wanting to look too eager in case a halfback gets to it first again. It went over the halfback's head! It bounces and I trap it just like the coach taught us. Then I boot it up. making sure it goes to someone on our team The play is successful! I'm ready for the ball to come again. Then- ring-ding-ding- Erin, you're out! I'll have to wait 'til next time.by Erin Nulty GINA PROVOST GIRLS' SOCCER 65 Offsides? For the last thirteen years, the Clifton-Fine Varsity Boys' Soccer Teams have been successful under the direction of Mr. La- Duc. All of his teams appreciate the time, effort, and dedication he has given to us. He has taught us many things, such as, how to play the game, how to win, and especially, how to work together as a team. We will miss Mr. LaDuc next soccer sea- son but will remember all that he has taught us and use it to be successful. We thank him for all he has done for us. Cory, We love you and we're proud of you. Mom, Dad and Craig Brandy, Wishing you success And happiness In everything you do. Love, Mom and Dad Mr. Arthur Peterson, was an amazing man whose curiosity and continuing desire for knowledge kept him active in the community and in many organizations until the morning of his death. He was a caring man with a quick wit and a great knack for conversation. For me, his death did not become real until one Saturday morning when I went to see Mrs. Peterson. I have been going there regularly for almost three years now, but this day would be different. Instead of two coffee cups on the kitchen ta- ble, this morning there was only one. He's at the post office, right? He'll be back soon, right? I think I had myself con- vinced until I went into the bathroom to gather the towels to be washed. For three years I have brought down two sets of towels and today, only one. Such small and insignificant things like towels and only one toothbrush hanging on the rack remind us constantly of something that is missing. Not only is a major and important part of Mrs. Peterson's life missing, but an important part of the school community is also missing. Mr. Peterson was a leader in our community and his emphasis and concern for the welfare and education of the students in and out of the classroom was always apparent. Clifton-Fine will miss him. Many accomplishments have been made and many goals have been reached. For in- stance, advancements and changes have been made in the music department, such as creating jazz band and adding the new chorus teacher. Miss Pau- quette. This year has worked out well with the changed administration and the addition of several other teachers to the faculty. The new A.F.S. students have also added a new touch to this school year, giving us an opportunity to learn about them and their different cultures. Our seniors will soon be leaving us and making a new beginning, and starting to make their dreams of the future a reality. Congratulations and good luck to all of you. SUPPLEMENT '89 A NEW ATTITUDE Amanda McCarthy With a new coach and a few new players, this year's Girls' Varsity Softball team had a new attitude toward the game. The girls finished the season with a record of 10 wins and 4 losses. They took second place in Division 11-West and went to the semi-finals of the Sec- tional playoffs. The girls can be very proud of their season since this has been the best record in many years. Congratulations on a great season!!
