1983 MOUNTAIN ECHO VOLUME XXXIV CLIFTON-FINE CENTRAL SCHOOL STAR LAKE NEW YORK 13690 TABLE OF CONTENTS: Theme...........................2 Faculty and Staff...............5 Student Section................20 Underclassmen..................22 Senior Section.................46 Senior Directory...............58 Activities.................... 54 Advertising....................92 This two-page scrapbook” details some past events and activities at Clifton-Fine Central School. Throughout this volume, we have tried to recapture some fond memories, especially of this past year. We hope that in years to come, as you turn these pages, some pleasant memories will come back to you.—ed. 2 TO KA THI, I’ve lost a friend. And tragic as it is As innocent, carefree children, we were lifetime friends, To ose a youth, Bosom buddies, we said. We would never end. IS oven worse, i think, Through hop-scotch games and giggling nights To feel the shame I feet right now And make-believe and campfire lights for not having said, “You’re my friend’’, To Christmas caroles sung merrily or “!tike you , or “I love you’’, We laughed together; sure we’d always be. And not learn from it. But you and your family moved away And before I got a chance to say How much our memories really meant, We’d both grown too sophisticated for such sentiment. Then, it happened. And all the tears and shock And useless questions and talk Of “How?” and “Why? are bloodless cries inside an empty wind that merely dies, As all we must. And it is too late to say anything. We've lost a friend And mourned. Now we lend Our energies again to life And to each other. From life to death to Life again, we return, Our strength renewed, our lesson learned. We'II not wait to proclaim our love too late, We’ii do it now. —by, and from her friends 4 A Memorial FACULTY STAFF (above) Mr. Kelly, Elementary Principal; Mr. Caster, High School Principal (left) Mrs. Price, Account Clerk; (above) Mr. Williams, Business Administrator 6 Administration Secretaries: Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Patraw, Mr. LaRose, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Adams Board of Education: (seated) Mrs. Carthy, Mrs. Snider, Mrs. Smith, President: Standing: Mr. Brass, Clerk, Mr. Fenton, Mr. Woods, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Averill; absent: Mr. Pitts Administration 7 ELEMENTARY TEACHERS 1111 mam Psychologist: (above) Mr. Moore Speech Therapists: (above) Mr. Derrigo; (below) Mrs. Comeau Second Grade: (above) Mrs. Healy, Mrs. Henrie Elementary Faculty 9 (above) Third Grade: Mrs. Capone, Mrs. Hynes; (below) Sixth Grade: Mr. Glenn (above) Fifth Grade: Mrs. LaRocque, Mr. Collins: (below) Fourth Grade: Mrs. Hosmer 10 Elementary Faculty Sixth Grade: Mrs. Balchikonis mm Sixth Grade: Miss Galvin Math Department: Miss Reynolds, Mrs. Fraser, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Hollern High School Faculty 13 Mr. Frank, Health; Mrs. Sovay, School Nurse (below) Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Antwine, Art (below) Mrs. Glenn, Home Economics 14 High School Fa (above) Mr. Persson, Industrial Arts Mrs. Grimm, Mrs. Twyman, Music (above) Mr. Russo, Mrs. Wendt, Mr. Healy, Physical Education (below) Mr. Chariebois, French; High School Faculty 15 Social Studies Department: (seated) Mr. Lachut, Mr. Giardino, (standing) Mr. Laduc, Mr. Garbreana 16 High School Faculty (below) English Department: Mrs. FitzRandolph, Mr. Yartz, Mrs. Voter, Mr. Cherepon, Mr. Perrault 18 Staff S. It was one of our most successful years. We raised the money by holding activity nights, car washes, bake sales, movies, and our annual candy sate. All the members of the club worked hard and deserve much credit. On May 27, 27 members departed for Quebec City. After a long 8-hour drive in the bus, we settled into our hotel and headed for the roller disco. The next morning we visited Quebec's wax museum and military museum. After lunch at Laval University, we swam in the Olympic-size pool at the college. After a formal dinner at Le Vendome, a movie (in English) was in order. Sunday brought mass at St. Anne de Beaupre Cathedral, followed by a picnic at Montmorency Falls. The ride to Montreal was quick. At 6:30 that evening we were settled in again. The subway was our transportation there so students could shop and eat all they wanted. We returned to Star Lake at 7:30 pm Monday night safe, sound, tired; but happy!! French Club 89 YEARBOOK STAFF Keep this bookI It might become a collector's Item. This year's staff was so small, we couldn't even take a group picture! Will the MOUNTAIN ECHO follow the path of other forgotten traditions at Clifton-Fine? How many remember the Student Council, the school newspaper or the Candlelite Cafe? One will recall that they were dropped due to lack of student interest. Are our students so busy that they can’t afford the time to help produce the yearbook? I don't think so .. . It’s the same old story: Let someone else do it. Well, someone else may not do it next year. This book was to be sent to the printer in March and here it is July 27th and it is still being produced. The production of a yearbook Involves long, dedicated hours of hard work, but the sharing of that work by many can make it bearable; even enjoyable! It involves photography, drafting, typing, creativity, and much more. It can be fun and educational, but not if only one or two students work on it as has been the case this year. This book won't arrive back at Clifton-Fine until October! I just can’t wait for the complaints about that to start rolling In! The problems with the yearbook are more school-wide than one would think. They are problems of attitude and laziness. It’s easier to let someone else do the work, right? True, there Is little glory involved with yearbook work, but even the traditionally more popular activities, ie: athletics, have suffered some from lack of participation on the part of the student. Students had better get involved in the few remaining extra-curricular activities or perhaps those activities will follow the road of the Student Council, the school paper and the unbroken 34- year tradition of the Mountain Echo. This year’s book was produced mostly by Kelly Patraw, who contributed long hours after school and into the summer vacation working on the book, i am particularly grateful to Kelly for her efforts and dedication. Others who assisted were Stephanie Derby, Katie Derby, Jon Boula, and Peggy Forkey. Others helped at various times throughout the year. My thanks go out to all who helped produce the book. A special thanks goes to Mr. Caster for his fundraising efforts. Next year, kids, if you are fortunate enough to find an advisor for the yearbook, be there when you are needed, with no excuses. Get involved and make it a school-wide project. Don't assume someone else will do it. They won’t! 90 Yearbook Staff —Mr. Ritchings, Advisor Row 1: B. Terry, C. Skvorak; Row 2: J. Boula, L. Kelley, S.
