Text from Pages 1 - 98 of the 1981 volume:

Dedication We, the MOUNTAIN ECHO staff, dedicate this, the thirty-second volume, to Mrs. Carolyn Twyman. Mrs. Twyman graduated from Crane School of Music in 1953. She taught at Mineville Central School, Mannsville Central School, Ticonderoga Cen- tral School, and Edwards Central School until 1970, at which time she started teaching here at Clifton- Fine. Mrs. Twyman has taught both vocal and instru- mental music at all levels. She has directed, per- formed and acted in both musical and dramatic stage productions. She has participated in community musi- cal groups, such as church choir, barber shop, and community chorus. Here at Clifton-Fine, Mrs. Twyman is active in the teachers association. She also directed and played in the pepband. We thank her for adding a little spirit to those home basketball games. Mrs. Twyman, it is difficult to express what your dedication has meant to us as seniors. You got us go- ing, when the hope had almost disappeared. You stayed right behind us and spurred us on, until we finally reached our goal. Thank you so much for your dedication to our class and for making music a part of our school. 2 Clam up! 3 Seniors aren't all bad! —Carolyn Twyman, Senior Advisor (Concerning colleges?) If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else. —Dottie Cooper, Guidance Counselor The mind of a man can invent it, the hand of man can build it.—George Persson, Industrial Arts And finally. . . Today is a D day. —Charles Casler, High School Principle 4 nr FACULTY S' ( r u Dear Mum and Dad, Hello again! The staff of Clifton-Fine are a really friendly bunch, even though some look a bit formidable at first! There are about 60 teachers from kindergarten to 12th grade, teaching subjects rang- ing from music to First Aid. All the staff members 1 have run into in my short time here are friendly and only too glad to help with any prob- lems. They are a mixed lot really; each one as different from the next as. . .fish and chips! More Later—Joanne 5 TEACHERS' AIDS: Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Denesha, Mrs. Latremore, Mrs. Seifer’. Kids in Clifton-Fine are just about the same as any all over the world. They are funny, daring, strange, friendly, and generally, good natured. They really make me feel welcome, which is the nicest thing about them. They are definite- ly more happy-go-lucky than Eng- lish teenagers. We are all finished with school at 16, so we are more independent. I wish you could meet them all, I'm sure that you would not ap- prove of some of them, but others, you would love, just as I do. Even though they may not be the best, they all enter into one or more sports throughout the school year. They have such interesting ones, too! For instance, girls are laughed at in England if they want to play soccer, and basketball at home is an all- girl game. Although we have our own equivalent of base- ball, it is not recognized world-wide, like the all- American sport that baseball is. 60 I’m really glad 1 went out for soccer. It was an experience in it- self; I enjoyed myself more than anything, and the team spirit is really strong. It's a great way of getting to know everyone, and there were some real characters on the team, I can tell you! What other country would actual- ly submit to having donkeys in their gym? Only Americans, I’ll bet! Everyone here is so dedicated to their sports too—practices every night after school, on the dot; not the one-a-week arid Saturday morn- ing jobbies I was used to. Yes, they certainly are dedi- cated—you can tell by the looks on their faces as you thumb through this section! 61 VARSITY: Row 1: C. Branche, K. Foley, M. Chatelain, C. Laurin, B. Sovay, R. Mr. Ritchings was the yearbook advi- sor. 76 There is much hard work involved in producing a yearbook. There is more to it than just taking pictures. It takes a number of dedicated students, along with the advi- sor and editor, who are willing to work hard, long hours putting the book together. In recent years there have been many problems hinder- ing the production of the book. I could begin to list them, but most people really wouldn't care. It has been my ex- perience that all they care about is receiving the book in June, July, August or even in SEPTEMBER. You do know that the book could be here in May, don't you? I guess you could sum it up as a LACK OF INTEREST. Since it's at the bottom of many people's priorities list, should it be discontinued? After 32 years? Traditions do seem to be disappearing. The future of the yearbook may depend upon YOU! Paula Hickey Editor P.S. Much appreciation goes to Mr. Ritchings for his dedi- cation to this book, as advisor, not just this year, but also years past. It may not have always been working directly with the staff, but working with me to find solutions to the many problems we faced in the production of this book. Many thattks go to the Seniors and Juniors, who helped in the sale of this book and to Mr. Eldridge and Loren Bullard for helping with the photography. Special thanks to the small, but dedicated staff. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING THIS YEARBOOK POSSI- BLE! 77 Senior Chorus Row 1: L. Price, P. Bush, K. Trombley, F. Munroe, S. Mar- tin, M. We Always Leave Something Behind I, Cathy Cote, will the little patience that Mr. Hollern has left to the Junior that needs it most. (I couldn't have made it without you, Mr. H.) I, Carol Garbreana, will my NATURAL blond hair to Rich Hitchman. (Those black roots are a real turn-off. Rich!) I, Chuck Trembley, leave my financial expertise to Tom Crane. ORFORD IASURAACE 95 ASSOCIATIOA AGEACY Dear Mum and Dad, Well, I'll soon be home, I've had such a great time here, being an actual student in the Clifton- Fine Class of '81. I wish I could thank everyone; in fad, 1 can. I can thank them now; Thank you to the people of Fine, that far-away town, to the people in Oswegatchie, even those at the gas sta- tion and shop, to those in Newtown Falls, where all the wild partiers live, including my Aunt Nan- cy. To those in Wanakena, especially the Twymans (all of them), and the Cranberry Lakers, and of course every one of you in Star Lake, ivhich I have come to regard as my home. 1 will never be able to forget it. Thank you to the whole senior class, who you have seen in these pages, and all the other grades. To you who just smiled and said Hi in the corridor. To the teachers, who are just as much friends to me as the kids, and the people who welcomed me into their homes, like the Powers fam- ily. I must not forget the yearbook staff either, who let me expess openly my gratitude to you all for welcoming me into Clifton-Fine so easily, (and for including my artwork in this book). Most of all I have to thank the Cotes: Ma, Cathy, Pa, even Robin and Travis, who made me part of their family. Thank you. I hope 1 got a chance to meet you, the person who is reading this little bit of writing at the very back of this book, because, undoubtedly I will be back in England when you read this. To every single person in Clifton-Fine; (and to you Mum and Dad), who allowed me to come here, to The Midst of Gods Country . Thank you ever so much. Yours, Joanne Gudoin AFS F.notnnd 1QR1
