The Principal . . . This Book is for You: For the year 1979, we the MOUNTAIN ECHO staff, dedicate this thirtieth volume to Mr. Jared Cooper, our high school principal. Mr. Cooper graduated with a B. S. From Oneonta State Teach- ers College in 1957; started teaching at Clifton-Fine the fol- lowing year. He taught science for the next 7 years and be- came very involved with his students teaching as well as coach- ing Jr. High basketball, football, soccer and golf. He left us for two years to go to Keeseville Central and returned in 1966. Mr. Cooper was selected as National Science Foundation Schol- ar not once, but three times; and in fact, worked on his doc- torate at the University of Virginia from 1971 to 1972 under a N. S. F. grant. Upon returning once again to C-F, he taught Biology until the Spring of 1978. Mr. Cooper is a well-respected member of the community; has three children (all in school) and is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Knights of Columbus and the Star Lake Fire De- partment. Mr. Cooper’s most significant achievement (and our gain) oc- curred when he was offered and accepted the position of High School Principal. The school underwent its physical improve- ments in 1978. It has achieved a spiritual Rennaisance this year largely due to the efforts of Mr. DaBoll, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Cooper and the teaching staff who has consistantly demon- strated their support of this administration. One can walk through the school anytime and readily observe and feel a change in tone; atmosphere in the building. As students, we have a new direction; we understand better why we are here; who we are and where we are going. We thank you, Mr. Cooper; the staff, with whom you’ve worked so closely all year, thanks you; our parents (most of them) thank you. We all appreciate what you have done; the sacri- fices you have made for us. We hope you will continue as Principal in years to come so that others will also benefit from your leadership, as we did. A rebirth in education at Clifton- Fine HAS occurred to help make it one of the best schools in the North Country!
