Since the year is 1976, the Bicentennial year, we feel it appropriate to devote part of our efforts to reprinting pictures that depict the local history of our school district and the surrounding communities. .. .We apologize for the lack of detail; it is not our intent to present a photographic essay. We sim- simply hope that our readers will see these reminders of our past and recall their memories and exper- iences as well as events that helped create shape our present. .. .They will see some of our community founding fathers and will perhaps reflect, with appreciation and affection, upon those who helped us progress this far to the year 1976. ifflountmn Erijo ’76 GIlifton-IFine-CIentral Uolume §tar Slake, eui ork iLIFTON-FINE DEDICATES ICHOOT LAY NG OF THE CORNER JULY 15,1951 Clifton-Fine Central School A COMMUNITY PROJECT REAUZED THROUGH COMMUNITY ACTION ., — KM « ti tfn t - .4 m TMi HQua o DCD c noH rxu aka «usmcmC ICUMU JtWCUIS i -.TWO coNM tw notrt amo mt wn cu«m MA «rt Mere have an area of the playground. Richard Van Geider | An advancement unconceived j of five years ago by anyone in the ! community is Richard Van Gel (der's opinion of the new Clifton i Fine school. Mr. Van Gclder | teacher industrial arts at Qswe- ! gatchie and driver training class- !es in the adult education program. I He makes a hobby of photography | and golf. A graduate of Oswego State J| Teachers college in August 1951, ho married Miss Muriel Stockon, of Orwell, his home town, in June 1950. They have no children. Miss Constance L. Jennett My department, once we are established in the new Clifton- Fine school, will offer every op- j portunity to teach gracious living! and the management of a home, ! says Miss Constance L, Jennett,.! homemaking teacher at the Fine school. A recent graduate of Potsdam J State Teachers college, Miss Jen- i | nett is anxious to work in a school I that will provide adequate space j We, the Mountain Echo Staff and the class of '76 would like to dedi- cate the 1976 yearbook to the person whom we feel deserves recognition for all the things he has done for the students of Clifton-Fine-past and present; then and now... r This man graduated from Cana- daigua Academy; was stationed in Japan while in the service. Then, he returned home and attended Oswego State College. He graduated in 1951 with a B. S. Degree in Industrial Arts and later, a Masters Degree in the same subject area. From 1951 to 1955, he taught Industrial Arts and Drivers Education here at Clifton- Fine. From 1960 to 1970, he was Director of Guidance, as he was per- manently certified in Guidance and District Administration. In 1971, he applied for and became Business Ad- ministrator for one year and went back to Director of Guidance which is what his job is presently. Besides having a talent for carpen- try, he also enjoys hunting, fishing and helping young people. If he was to say that helping young people was a dream, then this would be one oc- casion when a dream came true. He has helped many students-scheduling and rescheduling so that the major- ity of us would have the classes we preferred. He is always fixing some- one's glasses or sending out transcripts or arranging possible scholarships and always taking the much needed time to help Juniors and Seniors plan for their future. In his many conver- sations with us, we all can recall statements such as: Whatever one's station in life is, the ultimate suc- cess one obtains is due to his ability to work with and facilitate people. We believe that this is a working philosophy. So, it is with a great deal of ap- preciation and admiration and re- spect that we dedicate this 1976 Mountain Echo to you, Mr. Richard VanGelder. Thank you from all of us. I 3 ?FacuItij-§taff —®ljen 5Joui . . . SfUDENT COUNCIL. FIRST ROW; L-R. May Susar. Vickers, Margaret Bradley, Katherine Babbitt. Mona Hanley for being elected to The All- Northern, All-Star as fullback and to Robin Cote as wing. Record: Win-4; Lost-5; Tied 1. Get Psyched! These are some of the locker room laughs that resulted from the past football season: Broke my 250th Chinstrap! Coach in the puddle?! Where's the tape? Now coach, now? Fran Tarkenton Pom- erville Mark Hunter quarterback? Quarterback sneak. . . Famous running punters: Ronnie and Bog . But in all seri- ousness, the team held together well despite the odds against them. Our team played well-established, larger teams and we were the only class B school in the league. The fact was mentioned by other coaches that our team was a hard hitting team. Leading the hard hitters were Ron Eibert and Donny Sullivan. Ron Eibert was awarded Honorable Mention Section 10 and other coaches were quite impressed with quarterback Mike Grammo. The whole team deserves a round of applause! JFootball Row 1: R. Boula, T.
