Text from Pages 1 - 118 of the 1971 volume:

When you are old and gray and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you And loved the sorrows of your changing face; And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how Life fled. And paced upon the mountain overhead And hid his face amid a crowd of stars. W. B. YEATS We had thought of saying thank you to her but it just didn’t seem enough for all that she’d done. Like those before her, she seems worthy of much more than anything words, written or spoken, can convey. For four years we have worked side by side producing the Mountain Echo, watching as she diligently and creatively drew together the pages of a book that many will cherish for years to come. It was her own investment ... one that seems to grow more valuable with each passing day. Until now we have not acknowledged her achievements. So, we, the staff of the 1971 Mountain Echo, dedicate to you, Mrs. Lynn Mead, our efforts, our work, our book. Guidance MR. JABLONSKI Mr. Jablonski, our guidance coun- selor, has helped many students with their individual problems. He administers our testing program and schedules our classes. Full of activity, the main office staff meets the demands of over eleven hundred students and over sixty faculty members. Secretaries Mrs. Hogan Mrs. Bigwarfe Mrs. Newtown Mrs. Hoover MR. MIRANDA our devoted principal, who in our eyes, is one of the few people who have made our school all that it is today. This is his last year at Clifton-Fine and we, the staff of the '71 Mountain Echo at this time would like to wish Mr. Miranda happiness in his retirement and best of luck in the years ahead. MR. BERO our secondary supervisor, who in the past has capably taken charge of the adult education program and the magazine subscription drive. MR. SHAKESPEARE willard Dowling January 14 MARCIA ROBERTSON January 20 MICHAEL O'LEARY January 23 MICHAEL HOLT January 20 AQUARIUS the water carrier January 22 - February 19 Aquarians are simple, unassuming persons. AMY PIERCE January 25 STEPHEN SQUAIR February 5 WANDA RIPLEY December 28 CHARLES KENNEDY January 6 CAPRICORN the goat December 22 - January 21 This is the scholarly, intellectual sign, producing deep thinkers and philosophers. These people are calm and deliberate in method and action. They are inspired by appreciation and advancement. Opposition and criticism worry them. Self interest is strong in Capricorn, for they are used to their own way. In business they are good managers, superin- tendents, bookkeepers and accountants. They usually evidence strong literary qualifications. NANCY SUTHERLAND January 6 JEAN LEONARD January 1 PATRICIA O'LEARY January 11 SANDRA SULLIVAN March 26 DAPHNE HENRI May 1 GENEVA AUSTIN May 4 MARY PEPER WAYNE HUBBARD April 23 April 24 ARIES the ram March 21 - April 19 Persons under Aries are keen, creative and highly adaptive; but also impetuous and headstrong. They are quick to anger but calm easily. They are humerous and quick of wit; they enjoy music and entertainment. Aries people like to see things carried out without effort on their part. There is a strong ego in the Aries nature, which causes them to be visionary and idealistic, thereby rising to positions of importance and esteem. Being natural leaders Aries people do not take orders from others. In business Aries spells success. They are good salesmen and their drive is valuable in real estate, insurance, banking and other financial fields. CHERYL KYER May 5 CHARLES WARD February 22 PISCES the fish February 20 - March 20 This is the most modest and unassuming sign of the zodiac. They are unselfish, honest and cautious. Calmness is a great trait of Pisces. There is determination in the Pisces nature and it becomes stronger the more it is aroused. Pisces people are deep in their devotion to friends and causes. There is no downing their optimism, and they imbue others with the same confidence. People who depend on people bom under Pisces are fortunate in having a stalwart friend. They are clever, witty and have an easy way of covering their faults. Gemini persons can drive good bargains and while they look out for themselves, they are very helpful to others. They are unconventional as well as skeptical and their foresight may suffer from ovei enthusiasm. Being bom under two lucky stars, Gemini people should make the most of it while they can because even double luck can run out and result in noth- ing. In business they are good speculators and promoters. They do well in publishing, television and transportation. As teachers, writers, artists and politicians, Gemini people have both the right attitude and aptitude. They are well liked and become the best of friends. Their generosity is genuine and they are liberal with money. Their tastes are simple. Games, outdoor sports, music and anything dramatic or artistic satisfy them. Though slow in action, once stirred, the Taurus person can overcome all obstacles. Oppostion can arouse them to unreasonable fury in which promises and friendship may be thrown to the wind. In business they succeed in all mechanical lines; as engineers, builders, and contractors. They are also good teachers, photographers, designers, sculptors and landscape artists. Both ambition and idealism are present under Leo. Leo people are impulsive, generous and brave. They insist upon charting their own course. They like everything that is active. Their own exuberance makes them showoffs, but they feel they are above such criticism. Indolence is the greatest drawback tp the Leo temperament. They will revel in ease and luxury until they are5 forced to action. They love the spotlight and seek appreciation and affection as quickly as they give it. In business Leo offers unlimited prospects. They are fine physicians and nurses. Many noted actors were born under this sign, and they are great in art.
