2 3 wm.%L 4 Her persevering service at Clifton-Fine has been hastily accepted, but yet, has gone unrewarded. She is ranked by many as the best in her field and is loyal in every sense. It has been her duty to bestow on each individual a solid foundation on which an education can be constructed. By combining the effectiveness of the golden rule with her intuitive desire to help, she has attempted to bring out the best in each individual. With this devotion in minds we have a symbol of honor for you, marking our gratitude and also your success. We, the class of 1969 do dedicate to you, Mrs. Amo, our Mountain Echo. our school board A. Halls without activity, desks without students, books without readers ... a place without purpose. People give life to these inanimate things which compose our environment. Without people desks collect dust, books decay, and the halls echo si- lence. People give life to ideas. We, the class- mates, the teachers, the friends and the advisors have given life to these things; yes, we have given life to the '68-'69 school year. 1969 ... what a year ... a flight around the moon ... maxi-skirts and long hair ... on the boys ... the Vietnam war ... student riots ... a new President ... Smith. sr. high national honor society 75 boy’s state Every year the American Legion selects a stu- dent to go to Boy's State. This year Brent Bullock was chosen to represent our area. Boys from all over the state attend. It was held at the Morrisville Agricultural and Technical College in Morrisville, New York. It is set up to familiarize the youth of the state with the state government and how it works. The boys had city and county caucuses every day. They also had assemblies with guest speakers every day. We think this is educational as well as being a very worthwhile experience. This is a fine way for the future citizens to learn how to run the govern- ment when the time comes for our generation to take over. foreign exchange students Cheryl Tubbs left for Bucaramanga, Colombia on June 24. She was there for about two months and she stayed with the Trillos family. The fam - ily had two girls and one boy. While there she attended a Parochial school in the equivalent to our 11th grade. She learned a little of the lan- guage from one of her sisters who spoke a little English. She found living with the Trillos different in that they ate different foods and they ate them at different times than we do. Sylvia Vargas arrived in Oswegatchie to live with the Tubbses on October 27 from Guatemala City. She stayed for 3 months. She was 15 years old and is in the equivalent to our 10th grade now. Most of her family spoke English. Sylvia found our school year to be different from hers in that their school year starts in January and ends in October. We think that this experience can benefit the student body both socially and educationally and we hope that this program will continue. 76 ROW 1: E. Ward, J. Rowand. ROW 2: B. Frawley, C. Their hours spent there have given them a lot of material to work with. VINCENT JACKSON, now the driver of the Vo- cational bus, told he finally learned how to cope with freeze-cuts, but it's not easy to padlock every window., SHARON MARSH, after her marriage, took over her father's place and is now racing horses at Vernon Downs. Next she plans to compete in the Kentucky Derby. VERONICA DUMAS is now working for IBM, Inc. She has invented a machine that needs no wires or panels. MICHAEL CORBINE has become a millionaire since his idea for a chain of Corbine's Markets, coast to coast, formulated. GENE SPICER, another celebrity of our class, recently signed a contract to play Tarzan in a new motion picture series. KATHERINE HARVEY has repopulated the village of Conifer, since she and her husband moved there. DEBBIE PROVOST now holds the national champ- ionship title in bowling. Those nights at the New- ton Falls Recreational Center helped, Debbie told us. MICHAEL MARRIAM now lives in the back hills of Oswegatchie. He made an exception for the reunion, usually he's only seen in town twice a year - when he comes to trade in the beaver pelts he acquires. BRENT BULLOCK is the newly elected president of the Bachelors' Protective Association. He and chief assistant, JOHN KERR are really having a ball with their jobs, they say. MICHAEL TRIMM has entered a partnership with Glen Campbell. They appear every Friday night singing their favorite country and western songs. FRED GOODROW took the advice of Coach Bachner and teaches Physical education at an all girls' college. GARY PARVESE made history as the first foot- ball coach to be mistaken for the ball. He was kicked over the goal post by the team. They even got the point. JAMES WILLETTE is now head developer at Kodak. He said his father had much to do with the way his talents developed. JAMES BRICKEY, after graduating from Albany Pharmaceutical College with high honors, has returned to Star Lake and gone into partnership with Mr. Witters. We are wondering if he had anything to do with the rise in prices. STEVE HAWLEY has taken over his father's position as funeral director. The business has really expanded. Steve says his most famous slogan is, You stab 'em, we'll slab 'em. SANDRA SIMMONS is a go-go girl at Authur's in New York. She says the pay is pretty good. KARYL SHANK is the head of a debating team. She still insists we should have a smoking room in the building. At Last! We found out PEGGY BURR’S real hair color. Now we know she always dyed it. BRENDA CAMPBELL is now living m the back hills of West Virginia. She's head shotgun for the Dixon clan. TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY
