Approximately 20 high school boys participated in CROSS COUNTRY. In this sport the contestants run over a course of about 2.5 miles in length. A harrier fone who runs cross countryl must possess a spirit of determination and will power as well as strong legs and lungs. This year's team, possessing an exceptional amount of uesprit de corps, was successful in defeating Holy Ghost Academy and Colton in three triangular meets. Leroy Lashua, a promising freshman, crossed the finish line first in two out of three contests. ln cross country the team with the lowest score wins. Each school enters a seven- man team, five of whom count in the scoring. Clifton-Fine was fortunate in having the use of the golf course as a training area. If this year's Junior Varsity squad is any indication of teams to come, we can safely predict a successful team for many years. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! A,,, if ,h'g 7 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS S. Yaddow . A maglc word to those whose pictures appear on this page. To these people, Skiing is not a sport but a way of life. Theyive been bit- ten by the snow bug! They cannot resist the call of the open slopes and the cross coun- try trail. Icy winds nip at the ears, stinging snow brings tears to the eyes, and bright sunlight reflected from blinding white- ness burns the face. Aching muscles and numbed toes and fingers mean nothing to the hearty who don the bucking board. Unexplainable and defying de- scription is the joy we gain from this age-old winter sport. K.
