Another tells me that in m Our nation's educators place such a stress on higher education and academics that vital technical skills are all too often overlooked. Until recently non-college bound students were often unmotivateol and frequently were graduated from high school without the basic skills needed for apprenticeship into industry. Three years ago, however, Mr. Gundersen initiated the Cooperative Industrial Education program to aid and guide these students by allowing them to become part of the business world while still in school. The sub- sequent organization of similar programs in other schools in the area bears witness to its success. To his program, Mr. Gundersen brings a new brand of authority, authority not based on title or regulation but rather on the respect his students hold for him as an individual. The bond he has with those he aids ex- tends into friendship, the warm, genuine kind that springs from the intense concern he has for his students. Cliffside Park High School is privileged to have such a member on its faculty, not only because of the service he performs, but for the man he is. We, the editors of Mnemosyne 1970, dedicate this book to him and thank him for his dedicated involve- ment. Youth lies - the future, For in the future is my past
