Each person Who Wishes to serve as an assistant is assigned certain periods a Week according to his study period, his ability, and his experience. lf there are too many people for one period, the extras may assist the students in charge by taking the attendance. The Library Council consists of twenty-five members The Assistant s primary duty in the library is to relieve the librarian of cer tain detail Work He is also there to help his fellow students as much as pos sible A school library is for the students and so should be a school proiect The problems of the library are brought before the Student Council by the li brary representative Such problems are discussed and carried to the home rooms thus giving the students a hand in the government of the library As in any organization the library assistant has a few duties to perform He checks and records the attendance stamps and slips books and assists students with research Work Besides these main duties the assistant shelves books mends magazines and books attends to excuses arranges notices on the bulletin boards and files cards The library assistants Work is completely voluntary The experience and information gained in this work however is useful either in the study of library work or in future reference work Betty Mercer was chairman of the Library Council this year and served as the library representative on the Student Council Page Fifty four mcelafion ommiffee HE Reception Committee, organized in l938, gives courteous helpful at- tention to the visitors. The members, who are known by the red and gray armbands that they wear, greet visitors at the doors and aid them in reaching their destinations as quickly as possible. Members also see that people with no definite business in the school do not linger. At no time, how- ever does a Reception Committee member have any jurisdiction over the pupils in this school. Students are on duty at all doors, during as many periods as possible. This committee has set a standard for courtesy of which the school may be very proud While unoccupied at their posts, the boys do their homework or read. When a visitor enters the boy rises greets the guest and asks if he needs as srstance lf the visitor wants to find a certain teacher the receptionist looks for the teacher s schedule in his file box locates the teacher s room and directs the visitor to that room Whenever the guest desires to see a student he must go first to the office Visitors can see teachers or students only during free periods unless the business is of the utmost importance As a whole the purpose of the committee is to free the halls of unnecessary visitors and to show courteous attention to those who do have business here It A...
