Honorable Clifford H. Smart On January 14, 1905 a child was born that was destined to have an incalculable effect on his neighbors in the Walled Laked area and in the whole State of Michigan. I am writing about Nlr. Clifford H. Smart, of course. Mr. Smart spent much of his energies in the formative years of the Walled Lake school district giving direction and purpose to the education of this communities' young. Along the way during these years he formed many friendships that will never be forgotten. He worked at the task at hand, but always allotted time for his family and their needs. After he had accomplished what he wanted to in the area of local educational growth he moved on to the State Capitol to further utilize his talents in the House of Representatives. In recent years he was the Minority Leader of the House, an honor he richly deserved. This past December 28, 1977 lVlr. Smart died in Florida where he was residing after his retire- ment from the House of Representatives. He is gone, but there is really no way to meas- ure the good this one man has done for us who have been fortunate enoughlto have benefited from his presence. I believe three words best describe lVlr.
