The facial expressions of.the teachers told us as much. Especially did we notice this attitude on the part of our sponsor, Mr. Joe Leatherman. Mr. Leatherman raised his voice only in praise, and many times credited us with strong lungs and vocal cords. We chose robust Robert Dickson as Class President. Talented Timer Powers, as Vice President. Gorgeous Georgia Parrish as Secretary 81 Treasurer. We thought we were off to a good start, especially since Mary Anne Harrell had become an addition to our class, but then, we did not anticipate our first stumbling block, INITIATION. Rat week, was unusually severe, our egos become deflated, personalities warped, and halos jarred but being of superior intellect, sound bodies, and even temperment, RECOVERY WAS RAPID, COMPLETE AND LASTING. Coach Nocera recognized what weight we Freshmen carried when Mighty Manning Carter lettered in foot-ball. Georgia would have lettered we are sure, if she hadn't gone out for cheer leading instead. November found us crowning beautiful Barbara Twiddy and hand- some Eddie Carver, Halloween Queen and King. Little as she was, a big addition came to our class when Kentucky gave up Lynn Atherton. Billy Nall, the boy who is always talking, talked himself into first place in the State F. F. A. PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST. Not to be out done, J. V., Robert, John, Billy, Ronald, and Timer Composed th F. F. A. PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE TEAM which went to State finals. Baseball team was privileged to have John and J. V., especially since they were only Freshmen. , To celebrate the survival of the first year, we landed in Fort Lauderdale, for our class party. Just because of the approach of summer, we did not stop, BIG BOY DICKSON carried his two cents worth to STATE FORESTRY CAMP. Summer waned, Fall began, and for us, another strenuous year. We knew it would be hard on us to go back as Sophomores, but we just could not disappoint the teachers, so we jumped right into the swing of things with roving Robert as class president, Timer as vice presi- dent, and Billy Nall to take care of all the loot we could rack up. We suffered a big loss, when Peggy Bleckley and Frank Connell moved away, but in return, gained John Overcash. After observing how well Georgia and Barbara teamed up, the school elected them to lead us through another foot-ball season. They found no difficulty in cheering for Frank Connell, John, J. V., Robert, and Manning, who kept the foot-ball team on the go. J.V. and John, being all Cgfaaa .Malorg C... around athletics, lettered in baseball as well as basketball. Traveling Timer started to roam when he was elected delegate to the F. F. A. National Convention in Kansas City and later carried the banner to State Forestry Camp. Spring sprung and it was time once more for another class party. We enjoyed ourselves so much at Fort Lauderdale, we con- vinced Mr. Leatherman to try it again. A welcome addition to our class was Latrelle Hughes. Since we anticipated hard work with the Prom and Banquet, we elected Timer as President, John as Vice President, Mary Anne as Secretary, and Georgia as Treasurer. Having decided we would need a little money to go along with our big ideas, we sold magazines and candy. Linda Lee led the way in magazine sales and was awarded a trophy. The school again recognized our fine talent and leadership when they chose Barbara as President of the F. H.- A., Timer as Vice President, Georgia as Secretary, and Barbara as Treasurer of Student council, with Billy Nall President of the Wild Life Club. Georgia and Barbara kept up the good work in cheer leading, as J. V., John, Eddie, Manning, and Robert led the team to victory, with J. V. winning honorable mention on the All State Team. Bobby, John, and J. V. kept the baseball team moving, with J. V. having bounced right up from basketball. Our beautiful 'D10Hd, Carol Miller, was chosen F. F. A. Sweetheart. We sponsored many foot- ball dances, not only for the money, but for practice for our one big dance, the JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM. We chose as our theme, STORK CLUB, and honored the Seniors with a banquet at the Clewiston Inn. To close the year, we elected Timer as editor of the '54 Tiger. With graduation as our goal, we began our Senior Year by elect- ing a new cheer leader, Sharon, along with Georgia, Captain and Barbara, Co-Captain. John won honorable mention on the Little All American and was Captain of ,our team. J. V. received honorable men- tion and Manning and John were on the All Conference team. With Billy Nall, President, Eddie, Vice President, and Georgia as Secretary, we were well represented on the Student Council. Linda led the F. H. A. as President, with Eddie and Sammy running the F.F.A. Bobby, John, and J. V. led the baseball team to win the Sun-coast Championship. John, Sammy, and J. V. were on the basketball team. Mary Anne won the Knights of Pythias speaking contest and represented this district in Key West. Our golf team was undefeated. Lunatics at Large, our Senior play, was directed by Mr. Willis and Mrs. Hathcock, our Senior Class Sponsors. Late hours, and loads of fun, constituted our Senior Skip-day trip to Daytona Beach, and so ends our carreer at C. H. S. Because we maintained our high scholastic standards, we all managed to skim by 6 6155 VOP QC? Clewiston, 'Florida May 24, 1954 Mr. J. V. Tanner, Coach Palrn Dale University Palm Dale, Florida Dear J. V.: I just want to wish you luck with your new position as head coach of Palxn Dale University. Seems as though our classmates have done pretty well themselves. For Instances: Lynn Atherton, with her new dance number, is now main attrac- tion at Frog's. Sharon Crochet has now completed her nurses course and she became so fond of medicine that she now has her own hospital, The Crochet's Veteran's of Goodno. She has also discovered achemi- cal to hold Kenny. Manning Carter has now reached his life long ambition. Thir- teen years of high school, five years prep school, three years in the National Guard. He is now attending LaBe lle University. Her-man Davis has opened his own Florist Shopg he specializes in Two Lips, Joe Dominguez is now radio instructor for the United States Navy. Lamar Ford has settled down to a quiet married life after buy- ing the Sunoco Service. Sammy Griffin is now running competition with J'oe's Fish Camp. He bought out Bill Johnson, Robert Dickson and Carol Miller have been married and divorce: three tixnes, but were back together at reunion. Wayne King, after ten years of milking cows, has finally enough money saved to attend Frost Proof University. Ronald Hare has opened up a new factory manufacturing pre- scription 33. 21 Mary Anne Harrell now receives 507: commission from the Western Auto on all sporting equipment sold to head coach, Gene Fuller. Latrelle Hughes now has her own program on the Grand Ole Opry. Linda Lee broke the world's record in shorthand. Her last dicta- tion was 508 words a minute with the twins in her lap. Shirley Marshall has invented a new mineral to grow. She has now reached the height of 4 ft. ll inches. Billy Moore, starting at the age of twelve, celebrated the install- ment of his 2,460 millionth telephone. Billy Nall is now surveying his land after buying the Knife and Gun Club. John Overcash is in the trucking business with one Model Apick- up. John Perry, more commonly known as Honest John , after working ten years for Bill Martin has acquired sufficient stock to open his own business. Timer Powers has opened his new Northeastern Gas Company, He is running pretty good competition with Dan McCarthy. Believe it or not, Georgia Parrish is now married and has three boys and five girls. Georgia insisted on naming her sons and for some unknown reason, she named them: Gerald, Orbie, and Gene. She just calls the girls 1,Z,3,4, and 5. Mildred Pelham is now librarian of C, H, S, where she graduated ten years ago. Bobby Roland has spent the last ten years collecting his catfish traps, Barbara Twiddy, in her spare time, writes about her favorite subject. She has just finished her new book, Cheaper by the Dozen. Lynda Wilkins and Flora Mae Weaver attended ten years of Busi- ness College and now are superintendents of the Lyke Brothers Ranch in Brighton. Well, Jay, Ihave now contracted with Harold Lewis, New Florida governor, a four lane highway from Clewiston to the business district of Bean City.
