L 9luv32'il5x2 SALUTATORY Tonlght we reach the threshold of tomarrow, To morrow is Destlny' Tonight is our formal coming out The critical eye of the world rests upon u , offering her deci sion of acceptance or rejection Twelve years have been spent in preparation for this occasion and for what it stand . A diploma will be thrust into our hands, and a me sage anchored to our hearts Thus gwe greet the dawn of a new life, a post schooling life where we are classified as men and women and treated accordingly, And that is the Gate that is Tonight' But what will follow in this new life? Who knews0 Who can say? Who can predict what the fu ture holds in store for us? That future 1S our trea ure chest, and it is not through prediction but only through exploring that we gain wisdom and un derstanding, pleasure and experience And so the answer to the question is silence We want no prognosticatien we want to live each day as it breaks and fades for it shall never break again Each day is one more grain of sand falling into Eternity, spelling out Life across the abyss of darkness Yesterday shall not return Pictures and diaries serve only to bring back memories more clear l but they too fade and die It has passed into 0 ivion forever, and all such efforts at regaining it are futile, And so it is with tonight. This ninth day of June in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty one is slated to appear only ence upon the calendar And so it hall, and then, when it too has slipped away, there is no way of recalling it That is why we live for today. That is why I say we shall pas this way only once, Any good deed that we can do, therefore, any kind word that we can say, let us do it new, for we shall not pass this way again, Se with this thought in mind I welcome you here tonight, To you who have been to many graduations, including those of your own, this is nothing new, But to us it is. To us it is an era of awakening.
