Z1 Laura Shaw FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The Clever Chapter of the Future Homemakers of Amex-1ca began a busy year xn September 1948 w1th the followxng members lnstalled as offlcers for the year Presxdent Reva S1ms Song Leader Barbara Shaw V1ce Presldent Betty Hanaf1n H1stor1an Gayleen L1tt1e Secretary Fayetta Hodges Parhamentarzan Charlene Orcutt Treasurer Esther Crowley Reporter Eupha L1ttle The Future Homemakers of Amer1ca 15 a nat1ona1 organ1z.at1on composed of chartered state assoc1at1ons wh1ch 1n turn are made up of local chapters 1n h1gh schools Any h1gh school g1rl who has taken or 1S tak1ng home econom1cs may be a mem ber by paylng the nat1onal and state dues Forty of the forty f1ve hxgh school g1rls enrolled 1n Clever H1gh School are members of the local chapter There are four degrees of achxevement namely Jun1or Homemaker Degree Chapter Homemaker Degree State Homemaker Degree and Amer1can Homemaker Degree The motto of the FHA IS Toward New Hor1zons Expressmg the purpose of the organlzatlon learrnng to lxve better today ln order that our l1ves and those of our fam1l1es may be better tomorrow We were proud to be the hostess chapter to e1ght other chapters on October l 1948 1n a sub d1str1ct conventlon There were 332. g1r1s 1n attendance The morn mg program was composed of musxcal numbers sklts and playlets from the var1ous chapters The afternoon program was cl1maxed by a style show made up of rep resentatxves from each school followed wlth a tea by the local chapter Among other aCt1V1t1eS of the year are the servmg of banquets to the Llon s Club Future Farmers of Amer1ca and mothers and daughters banquet From these act1v1t1es the chapter has been able to add a new slnk and magazxne case to the1r departmant The chapter meets regularly the f1rst week of each month At th1s t1me the gxrls learn how to part1c1pate 1n commlttee work carry on a bus1ness meet1ng and conduct a club program Club programs may be the outgrowth of class work ln home economlcs Three unlts of home economlcs are offered at the present t1me Each one progressmg ln the fxelds of home management money management fam11y relat1onsh1ps fammly health and home nursmg ch1ld care and development foods and clothmg Opportun1t1es are w1de open for the personal development of any g1r1 who wmshes to take advantages of such The development to the g1r1 1nto a well rounded person ahty mentally physlcally sp1r1tually and soc1ally IS the goal of home economxcs tra1n1ng Just as you add to your bank account by makmg depos1ts so the gxrl develops personally by domg the thzngs of her tramxng at school and at home ZZ .. ......... ..... ......... - urls: oalnloonfllul .......... - ......... ................
