And when you walked down the high school hall for the first time as a green freshman and saw this out-going lady who gave you a warm friendly smile, did it not make you feel better, as if you really belonged and were not just a newcomer? And did you ever stop to think of all the countless behind the scene jobs that this person is responsible for accomplishing. And so it is with deep gratitude and respect we, the Seniors of 1968, dedicate this volume of IE -l7Qto Mrs. Audrey Ennis whose vivacious spirit, personal interest in us, and dedication to her Work have endeared her to our hearts. No, this is not Central Prison. ? ff' ,fd Never too much love! Don't be a pig, take one sheet at a time. 4 OF SERVICE THE LIGHT OF LOVE Dearest Parents We would like to take this special opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to you. We realize that through all the years your love has con- tinually lighted our pathways. We know that it is humanly impossible to ever repay you for your sincere devotion, your deep understanding of our everyday problems and needs, your kindness, your patience when we were slow to learn, your wisdom when it was needed, and for your deep and abiding love. AS yOu know, we very often fail to take just a few minutes out of each day to thank you. So at this time we would like to say, Thank you, Mother and Father, and above all, we love you deeply. 3 e Nr... Throughout the history of man, there have been many great leaders. We here at Cleveland are very fortunate to have with us a great leader of today, Mr. Edwin T. Benton, our principal. l-le is the main spoke that keeps the wheel of Cleveland School turning. In his work Mr. Benton is often called upon to deal with a variety of people and situations. He handles his duties with tactfulness and a sense of fairness that few can match. The Seniors of 1968 feel that his leadership and wise guidance have been instrumental in their success. Yes, the first grade, a flickering light that shone dimly into the future for 58 young passengers who were aboard. just think, here's where we began to read and write. Progress began and we flew through the elementary limits of space. Faster-faster our space ship climbed and finally we reached our all important destination High School . Green Freshman met our ears but not for long because we proved to be great advancers in scholastic abilities as well as in athletic abilities. Would you believe that we had 20 boys and girls that made the basketball team and four that became cheerleaders? We also learned the need for class officers and elected the following classmates to lead us through this stage of our trip: President, Sharon Ennis,Vice-President, Rodney johnson, Secretary, jimmy Stephenson, Treasurer, Tony jones. Now does this look like Green Freshmen ! Our light is beginning to get bright- er. Our Sophomore year soon arrived, and still realizing the need for class leaders, we elected new officers for our class: President, Rodney johnson, Vice-President, Tommy Honeycutt, Secretary, Phyllis' Coats, Treasurer, Elaine Blackmon, Reporter, G. H. Carroll. This year our light began to really shine when 17 members of our class were in- ducted into the Beta Club. We advanced higher into space and reached another stage in our flight-jolly juniors. This year really proved to be jolly with all the planning for the Junior-Senior Prom. Hardly a day went by that Someone wasn't either building , bridges, drawing, and as no one will ever forget, making all those cherry blossoms. This year we elected as our class officers: President, David Smith, Vice-President, Steve Langdon, Secretary, joy Byrd, Treasurer, joy Parrish, Reporter, Kathy McGee. We finally reached the last stage of our flight in this orbit as Seniors. We arrived at this destination with 48 passengers still aboard. It seemed there were so many things to be done. We first called council and decided to elect officers for our new government. They were: President, Steve Langdon,Vice-President, G. I-l. Carroll, Secretary, Sue Smith, Treasurer, joy Parrish, Reporter, David Smith. So many new experiences still awaited us-Class rings, Superlatives, The Annual and that all important Washington Trip. This trip was only for a few days and not very fax' from our launching pad, but to have seen all the luggage, one would have thought we were taking an across country trip. Lu-Ray Caverns will never be the same, it has a few man-made touches added. Time kept flying by our space ship window, and a final and last meeting came to pass-Graduation. Now we are aglow, and our light shines toward broader horizons. Each has now boarded his own space ship and gone on his separate journey forward. Tommy Honeycutt enjoyed Washington so much that he decided to become President and make it his permanent residence. Carolyn Parrish decided to go along with him to be his secretary. joy Parrish and Rodney johnson boarded the same ship and are now living happily in I-Iawaii. Joy Byrd is now at Walt Disney making Funny Films for anyone who wants to laugh, and Ann Coats is helping her out by drawing Donald Duck Cartoons. Bonnie Matthews and Phyllis Coats are chief cheerleaders for the Globe Trotters of which Weldon Byrd is coach and Don Adams has taken the name Dribble, Dribble. Rhonda Stephenson and Gerald Stephenson are still battling over a tournament in golf down in Florida, Sandra Johnson and Vicki Byrd have bought out Legett Myers Tobacco Company. Oh! How time does fly, but I guess it's time I got off Cloud 9 and piloted my space ship back down to reality. As time continues to slip pass, our guiding light will continue its ever brightening glow and then slowly begin to fade away-away-away. Many long miles must be trodden Before our poor bodies can sleep. The time has come to strive onward, Leaving these carefree days behind. A feeling of sadness sweeps over us, Saying farewell to friends so kind. The time has come to be thankful To our parents, friends, and teachers allg They gave their talent and patience abundant As we walked down these well trodden halls. The time has come to be happyg Our knowledge will always shine bright. Twelve years we have all toiled together To beam at the world like a light. Guided by God we shall followg Through I-lis grace He will show us the way. I-Iis eyes will always watch over us If ever we should fall astray.
