As time This is a shot of Cleveland as it was several years ago. There had been no landscaping nor rebuilding. ln 1925, the people of Mt. Zion, Shiloh, and Palenta schools had a bond election to consolidate their small schools into a large school. After much dispute as to where the school would be built, twenty-four and one quarter acres were purchased at the school's present site. Construction was begun on June 5, 1926. The straight part facing the road, or what is now the front of the build- ing, was completed at a cost of approximately S58,000. An east wing was later added that cost approximately 318, OOO. The first principal, Mr. Teryall Q1926-19271, was aided by only four teachers. The second principal, Mr. George E. Smith 11927-19311, had only 3 teachers. Cleveland's other principals include: Mr. George Strickland 11931-19401, Mr. N. G. Woodlief 11940-195515 Mr. john W. Walker 11955-195815 and Mr. E. T. Bentonf1958- J. Cleveland is fortunate now to have 25 well-qualified teachers and 6 teachers' assistants. Cleveland had its beginning as an elementary school, after its completion in the fall of 1926. For the first three years, the seniors were sent to the Clayton Academy to graduate. They drove an old Ford furnished by the county. In 1931, Cleveland had eleven grades and was thus considered a high school. 4
