C lass History The school days of the 1967 Seniors began back in 1955 with 82 bewildered boys and girls. The highlight of our first year was the toy band, which was a great success, since we had so many musicians in our midst. The next few years were comparatively quiet. We lost and gained classmates. We finally entered the eighth grade. Our trip to the State Capital was the most exciting adventure that year. We'll never forget Chapel I-lill, Raleigh, and Durham- boy, what fun! The Freshman year finally arrived with 54 students UQ 11-ying to find out which classes they belonged in. After much confusion, we found our way. As Freshmen, we weren't quite sure what class officers were for, but we chose them anyway. They were: Sonny johnson, President, Dennis Stephenson, Vice-President, Abigail Cook, Treasurer, and jo Ann McCabe, Secretary. We were just getting started this year and all the athletes in our class made the basketball teams. Tam Matthews and jo Ann McCabe made the cheering squad this year. I know you won't believe this, but we finally became Sophomores. This is the year we really shined. Becky Trader, Lou Ann Johnson, Phil Wood, Dennis Stephenson, and Brenda Dupree were inducted into the Beta Club. Sonny Johnson, Becky Trader, Tam Matthews, Melvin Johnson, Jo Ann McCabe, Larry johnson, Ricky Ennis, Brenda Dupree, Dennis Stephenson , Gail Jones, and Irene Morris became members of the Monogram Club. Brenda Gail Coats was honored as FFA Sweetheart this year. We topped our Sophomore year off with a party at the end of the year. We secured a live band and there was really some dancing done. Remember?! ? A century passed, and finally the git junior year arrived. Every thought, idea, secret, and plan was of the junior-Senior Prom. We really outdid ourselves with the prom. Our theme was Blue I-lawaii and the Weekenders really brought the house down QMemorial Auditorium, that isl. Under the leadership of our class officers, Phil Wood, President, Larry johnson, Vice-President, Dennis Stephenson, Reporter, Becky Trader, Treasurer, and Abigail C. Smith, Secretary, and our sponsors, Miss Hatcher and Mrs. Brown, our prom was the greatest Cleveland has had or ever will have. It is unknown whether anyone of us will ever recover from the painting, nailing, and cutting in- volved in decorating and cleaning up. But that was just about as much fun as the prom itself, but not quite! This year also found Patricia Moss a new addition to the Beta Club. Becky Trader was FFA Sweetheart this year. Our Marshals were Lou Ann Johnson, Chief, Patricia Moss, Brenda Dupree, Becky Trader, and Phil Wood. We ended our Jtmior year with a bang-and a debt! Blood, sweat, toil, and tears-Seniors at last! There were 47 of us now. Our Senior class officers were Sonny johnson, President, Larry Johnson, Vice-President, Patricia Moss, Secretary, Tam Matthews, Reporter, and Becky Trader, Treasurer. Gail King was honored with a trip to Chicago for outstanding work in 4-H. With our Senior year came class rings and a trip to Washington. Our Senior play, car washes, Macbeth, and money problems were other highlights of om' Senior year at Cleveland. But the greatest highlight of all was graduation and that treasured diploma. We may forget some of the things that happened to us at Cleveland, but we'll never forget all the knowledge we gained , friends fand enemiesj we made, and our love for Cleveland I-Iigh School.
