Soon we shall be responsible for our own decisions, and it is our hope that the way we make them will help us to make succeeding years more secure for those who follow us at Cleveland. ln years to come, years that will show miracles be- yond our wildest dreams, we shall look within this book and relive the years when life was simple. Our elementary years went by somewhat slowly but were hastened by educational trips, parties, and our most wonderful teachers. The long awaited excitement of being Freshmen finally came in the fall of 1959. There were sixty of us then. Those with athletic abilities selected to be on the ball teams were: Bobby Byrd, Carl Coats, Gilliam Austin, Dan Honeycutt, Jirnmy Blalock, Bonnie Honeycutt, Helen Stephenson, Mary Lee, Linda Byrd, Lois Carroll, and Linda McLeod. We also contri- buted two members to the cheer-leading squad, Gloria Braswell and Charlene Langdon. Many were members of 4-H, F.H.A., F.F.A., and other clubs. Joyce West and Fredia Bridges became members of our class that year. ln our Sophomore Year, we settled down to a more routine life. We were proud when ten members of the class were selected to be members of the Beta Club. They were Rosa Beasley, Lois Carroll, Jerry Lee Carroll, Gay Ennis, Elizabeth Johnson, Charlene Langdon, Joy Ogburn, Helen Stephenson, Judith Stephenson, and Ronald Smith. Brenda Norris be- came a cheerleader that year. All that went to the Junior-Senior Prom will never forget it. This was our most anti- cipated proiect of our Junior Year. The class was disappointed because we could not have a Junior Play. Distinguishing themselves by receiving awards were: Gay Ennis, History, Linda Sue Byrd, Home Economics, Jerry King, Agriculture, and Hebron Byrd, Agriculture. Brenda Norris, Delores Honeycutt, Lois Dupree, and Mary Myers became members of the Beta Club. We welcomed Peggy Holder and Evelyn McElveen as members of our class. Our Marshals were: Gay Ennis, Chief, Joy Ogburn, Elizabeth Johnson, Rosa Beasley, and Helen Stephenson. With the beginning of our Senior Year, we looked forward to many things, such as: put- ting together our annual, selling magazines to help finance our trip to Washington, measur- ing for our rings, our play, and others. We were all excited when Gilliam Austin won a trip to Chicago in 4-H. There are only forty-seven of us now. We feel that we have had a mostl prosperous twelve years. And to you, our Alma Mater, we say Farewell. Lois Dupree Harold Beasley Historians 1 34 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Cleveland Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty Two, being in as good a mental condition as can be expected, but in sound body, do make, publish, and declare this our Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows: ARTICLE I Section I To our parents our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the help that they have given us through these twelve years of school. To make this year complete, we are dreaming of a wonderful prom which we feel confident will be a whale of a success . It could be nothing else with a class such as ours and two wonderful helpers, Mrs. Boyette and Mrs. Stephenson, who have helped make this, our iunior year, truly a memorable one. 38 Charles Baker Alfred Barbour Harold Barbour Peggy Benson Dennis Blackman Phyllis Blalock Carolyn Bowling Danny Byrd Lynn Byrd Berry Gayle Clifton L xr- f QW7 'Q'-v R fa, lm T., if., My A S f Q CLASS OF 1963 . -v I 41 1 :Wili'i 'naw Q. . Our class has many members who take part in acti- vities and sports. With the help of Mr. Boyette and Mr. Matthews, we press on to be the Juniors of l962-'63, never for- getting the wonderful times we have shared during our Sophomore year at Cleveland High. High school--a year ago this was iust a word, but ' l'F 'tselF. today it is as real and full of meaning as I e 1 Little freshmen and stupid Freshmen are phrases we have heard spoken many times in a teasing manner. We, however, have been so busy with our extra-curri- cular activities that the teasing of upper-classmen has played only a minor role in our high school life. With the help of our class leaders and a wonderful faculty, we hope to continue our Fine beginning in high school and compete with the record set by the seniors of Cleveland High. 46 E. O.
