QJGJ4 In the fall of 1955 we entered Cleveland High School with an enrollment of 56 bewildered freshmen. Amongst all the confusion, we heard the loud shouts of our new principal, Mr. Walker, and then we knew exactly where we belonged. Several members of our class were among the first to take part in the F.H.A. and Monogram Clubs, which were or- ganized that year. We also had many who participated in F.H.A., 4-H, and Glee Clubs. We welcomed Mr. Bruce Coats, our new coach, to Cleveland High and had several classmates who took part in sports.. Sue Marconi, C arolyn Stephenson, Brenda Ennis, and Hilda Garner made the basketball team. Billy Raynor and Bobby Etheridge began their first year of sports in baseball, and Betty Cooke was on the cheering squad. On a sultry, September day in 1956, we found ourselves a more s ettle d brunch of sophs, but we still held our ever- lasting good humor. New additions to the basketball team were: Barbara johns on, Delores Cliton, Mavis McGee, and Betty Lou Sorrell. Billy Carroll, George Roberson, Bobby Stephenson, and Billy McGee were on the baseball team. That year we welcomed Peggy Stephenson as a new member of our class. Betty Lou Sorrell won the Home Economics medal for her outstanding achievements. Those chosen as marshals were Brenda Ennis and Geraldine King. All of a sudden we found ourselves juniors, looking forward to the many events which lay ahead. Faye Matthews, Bobby Etheridge, George Roberson, and Jimmy Hatcher were placed on the basketball tea.m, and Peggy Stephenson was a new addition to the cheering squad. We welcomed Leamon Myers into our class that year. Our junior play, If Mother Only Knew, proved to be a success under the able direction of Mrs. Louise Boyette and Mrs. Helen Gulley. Cotton candy, animals and m e rry-go-rounds bring back memories of our junior-Senior Banquet in which we carried out the circus theme. jo Ann Ogburn, Geraldine King, George Roberson, and Brenda Ennis received awards for their outstanding achievements that year. p The marshals were Brenda Ennis fChiefj, Geraldine King, George Roberson, Susie Hawkes, and Bobby Stephenson. On class night we presented the seniors with wishing wands and bade them farewell. SENIORS AT LAST! We had finally re ache d that lon g anticipated year. Adding to the delight of being seniors we learned that Mrs. Brooks was our homeroom teacher. We shall never forget that democratic feeling as we elected our officers, superlatives, mascots, and annual staff. Sell! Sell! Sell! was our motto as our magazine and candy campaigns got underway. What lies ahead? Whatever it may be, we shall always treasure in our hearts fond m e m orie s of our school d ays at Cleveland High School. The crowded halls and long lunch lines are far behind as we, the class of 1959, bid farewell to Dear Old Cleveland.
