Before that it was the annual Easter program, and then the past winter there were the many special Christmas performances to re- hearse, and, of course, the big Christmas programs. Quite a lot of songs in our repertoire after a year, but you really don't remember- the hours of practice-only the thrill and sense of accomplishment of performing well. And it was worth it! t Nighf xe Star 'Searle 'YY-9 Worth it if you think of the many friendships you've made. Worth it it you recall fond memories. When you sing Auld Lang Syne for the last time, you sadly realize that this is the close of a most rewarding chapter in your life, and you sense that intangible something which makes A Cappella mean so much to so many. How high the Fi? The highest! You will thrill to the dance band's revolutionary new sound brought to you through the development of the exclusive Hi-Fi. The older of the current C.H.S. novelty bands is the sensational Hi-Fi Band. On many occasions such as school dances or aud sessions, you may al- ready have thrilled to the music produced by this group, music with a third dimensional sound that is out of this world. Never before such Hi, never before such Fi. Of course you have read about the beeps of the satellites, but these are practically nil alongside the sounds of the Cleveland Satellites whose sounds are nothing short of fabulous. This is a swinging group which plays for dances and just plain listening en- tertainment. Although relatively new, the group has recently played five concerts in the elementary schools as well as at the very successful Valentine Dance. All members of the Satellites have come from the Concert Band where they have gained ex- perience and proved that they have the fine mate- rial required for membership in the Satellites. le sgirzfeffzfed Row One: Louis Campbell, Rich Ehlers, Barbara Reisner, Jim Schaefer, Thomas Burjeck, Marilyn Bloom, Alice Rolling, Walter Buchholz, Kenneth Romines, Harold Simon, Charles Beech. Herald M. Doxsee and Mr. Carl E. Briggson, who give their time and assistance whenever needed. One division of the club is the stage crew which you may never hear about, but the results of which are evident at auditorium sessions, dances and other programs at Cleveland. The stage crew is always behind the scenes making the programs more successful by insuring good lighting and sound effects at each performance. The members of the club are able to operate the various movie projectors, the tape recorders, slide and film strip pro- jectors and the two opaque projectors. The members give up their study halls to serve the school, receiving only service credit and awards as their credits accumulate. Fall Spring Ken Ebner ...,..... ........ P resident ,...,..... ...... The purpose of the Biotic Trail Club is to plan opportunities tor high school students to deepen their understanding ot, and appreciation for, the world of living things by learning to enjoy nature and the out-of-doors and by encouraging self-directed experiments and activity. The student is enabled to follow his own special interests in the area ot biology and related fields to an extent not possible in regular class work. The club was organized last November under the sponsorship of Mr. Terman. a newcomer to the C.H.S. faculty. The club membership is divided into interest groups which meet week days after school. The complete club assembles, in turn, for a monthly program which features an informative movie or discussion led by a biologist who is considered an authority in his field. The Distributive Education Club was first started at Cleveland in September of l956 and has very re- cently been affiliated with the State D.E. Club of Missouri. The purpose of our club is to further de- velop capable and professional leadership among its members who will soon assume important responsi- bilities in the field of distribution. Our D.E. Club attempts to help the members develop an under- standing of the many problems in retailing and to encourage them to give their best in time and effort on the job. lt further attempts to interest members in that phase of retailing in which their abilities may be developed to the best advantage and also to strive for the development of proper co-operation between members and their fellow employees. , One of the D.E. Club's recent activities included the State Convention, which was held on March 4th and Sth at the Melborne Hotel in St. Louis. Many of the students in the D.E. classes participated in some of the contests: the sales contest, fashion show, math and spelling contests, and window dis- plays. The convention proved a valuable experience for all D,E. students. 105 ramafic Since the recent organization of the Dramatic Club, its mem- bers have worked long and faithfully on many proiects. These have consisted of various monologues, skits, and the play Way Way Down East. ln order that the organization may devote a great deal of time to these activities they hold meetings every Tuesday afternoon, at 3:30, in Room 2, under the capable leadership of Miss O'Connor, a relative newcomer to the Red Castle faculty. The club, although still in its infancy, has contributed much toward the building of Cleveland and the surrounding community. Our club is just one of thousands throughout the nation, Our motto: We Build typifies the spirit of the Key Club members, who strive to become future leaders through service. The Key Club has completed many successful projects in- cluding the second annual Faculty-Key Club Basketball Game, which featured the crowning of the Ugliest Man. The pur- pose of this activity was to help pay for the new trophy case. We also sponsored a carwash to obtain funds which we used to supply four needy families with Thanksgiving dinners. The Key Club is sponsored by the Southside Kiwanis Club and every Friday we send two members to their meeting, just as they send a Kiwanis member to our meetings. As an extra added attraction the two Key Clubbers receive a free dinner. The backbone of the club is the sponsor, and it is the unani- mous opinion of the Key Club members that Mr. Julian is the best sponsor in the world. Under his guidance the club has continued to climb in importance. 109 Odiffmmi CM Row One: Steve Nuske, Jack Fenner, Don Pieper, Don Geldmacher, Phil Catanzaro, Richard Sheets, Jim Pesek, Gene Mur- ray, Lynn Paubel, Dave Folk, Tom Ernst, Rich Reim, Jim Rosenthal, Bob Gardner. The object of the club is to help the students have a better understanding of the Spanish people, their customs, pleasures and, most of all, their language. Due to the tact that most of the members do not speak Spanish fluently, all of the meetings are conducted in English. There are two main events in which the Spanish Club participates throughout the year. The first is the picnic to which we invite the Webster-Hayne Society. Then there is the Christmas Party to which we are invited by Webster-Hayne. The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month in Room 4, at 3:20 pm. No other club has a more diversified and interesting gathering of students than this club. Every Thurs- day afternoon the club meets, as it has done for more than forty years, and discusses or debates topics from the all-important to the seemingly least vital. But nothing is really trivial, as any Webster-Hayner will attest. Sometimes an insignificant dis- cussion will draw forth that unusual humor and outstanding logic that is necessary for success in public speaking. The im- portant fact is that Webster-Hayne offers opportunities to de- velop public speaking. 114 lac!! Left to Right: Mr. Henry Herbst, Treasurer: Mr. Fred Kulik. The purposes of this group of dedicated dads are to support sports- manship among all athletes at Clevelandg to encourage good relationships and more understanding among the family, stu- dents, and facultyg and to urge more students to participate in athletics. To accomplish these goals the Dads' Club sponsors many activities and projects throughout the school year. Two Letter- men's banquets are held each year, at which both boys and girls who have participated in athletics receive recognition. The annual card party is held each fall and of course there's the Annual Spring Carnival, an event to which everyone looks forward. Everything from throwing pies to fishing in the fish pond can be done at this high spot in Cleveland's social activi- ties. The funds raised at these events go toward the purchasing of trophies, equipment, and maintaining school spirit. Cleveland students are proud of the dads who are members of the Dads' Club. Those men who are not already members are urged to join in the enjoyable and beneficial activities of this organization. With the achieve- ment of this goal, these groups will be able to co- operate more intelligently, thereby bringing about the development of good citizens, and more per- fectly rounded individuals. ln order to accomplish the purpose of the Asso- ciation, this group works in conjunction with the Dads' Club when the joint efforts of both groups are required. Among the activities which aid in the development of the pupil are Freshmen Night and the Senior Party. The Association also holds a card party, the pro- ceeds of which are used in buying needed athletic equipment, trophy cases, and audio-visual aids not supplied by the Board of Education. ln this way the Association is able to supplement the ordinary serv- ices of the school, Non-members are urged to attend the meetings of this group on the third Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at the school. a 1135 X X Our earth is constantly being bombarded by cosmic rays which come from outer space.
