Omer E. Elkins, Principal Rosemary Dotson, Secretary jr nMINISTRATiON IN TRANSITION In recent years profound social changes have been occurring in the United States. We are the original affluent society, and our astonishing technology prom- ises more material abundance, more leisure, and more education. Yet our society is beset with unrest, social protest, and even violence. The emergence of a mass society and the resulting changes in family life, iritergroup relations and social values, have posed new and serious challenges to traditional attitudes and values. We live in the most prosperous nation in all history. Yet we have the problems of other countries past present, less fortunate than we. To the graduating class, I offer this challenge: There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that is your own self.
