0 aqqo EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: JUDY FLEENOR BUSINESS MANAGER: ROYICE RASNAKE 2 m.5 3 You, the green, but sophisticated,” sophomore; you the expectant, hardworking junior; you the self-assured, confident senior--to everyone at Cleveland High School-- THIS IS YOUR YEAR. It is a year filled with moments of laughter, excitement, friendship, and study. Although many of these moments may seen insignificant, these are the things that make a year memorable. Whether cheerin g your team to victory, cramming for the quiz you just heard about, or having the time of your life at the dance, you will come to treasure these moments, for they make up Your Year. In this volume we have attempted to preserve these memories that you may never forget this--Your Year. Gonienis . . . CTlcfminisiraiion IN TRIBUTE The image of man carved in finely textured marble perpetuates his likeness to generations yet unborn. The gifted artist with his inspirational talent captures the strength of will, the determination, and something of the character of man with his brush of rich colors, hues, highlights and shadows. The legends of man are etched in polished granite, and the plaques of bronze forever tell his story. With the truly great professional, the teacher, this is not always so. His greatest legacy, his influence, is quite immeasurable and defies complete depiction. The staff of the 1965 ARROW takes great pride in dedicating this book to just such a man .... Dr. George Howard Givens, Division Superintendent of the Russell County Schools. We consider Dr. Givens to be a man of reason, receptive to differing opinion. A man of calculated good judgment whose vision exceeds the expected, and whose patience has been rewarded with forty years of progress. First and foremost, a gentleman, skilled in the art of human relations, and respected for his open-mindedness. A man of deep conviction, with an understanding of his fellow man and a reverence for his God. This book is dedicated to the man, to his career, and to an abundance of good works. Sraiefu TtJ T ecficaiecf Hugh R. Morgan, Jr., Principal; B.A., Emory Henry; M. Ed. University of Virginia yiominisirah ' on AN AWARENESS The teacher is the key to the ordered process of learning. This key opens the door to an abundance of pos- sibilities and stimulates the reason far beyond the expected. Once the door is ajar the sequence to success grad- ually unfolds. Self-analysis, planned and evaluated, opens the mind to study, broadens the areas of interest, patterns the processes of thinking, and stimulates the desire for learning learning for living. The routine of living, when carried out solely in terms of tomorrow ' s objectives, loses some of its value and much of its enjoyment. Therefore, individual study beyond the classroom adds importance to today. That which is ultimately sought becomes the culmination of much that is worthwhile and enjoyable at the moment. To have an inner feeling of self-assurance and self-achievement is necessary to individual growth. Study to show thyself approved can be one of life ' s more rewarding experiences. However, to grow as an individual an aware- ness of being must be understood. In a free so- ciety the purposes of true living are not estab- lished or directed. Be it a pity that all men of kindred profession were exactly alike or even closely so. Set your mind to a task, unbounded if you will, and strive to achieve it, but above all have an awareness. GARY BREEDING JIMMY CLATTERBUCK NANCY DOTSON JUDY FLEENOR KATHERINE GRIZZLE VIRGINIA BEAVERS SHELIA BAILEY BRENDA BARTON LINDA BARTON JAMES BREEDING Twelve years ago forty students entered Cleveland Elementary School. We were the original first grade to enroll in the new build- ing. Only ten of these first graders remain in our senior class. Over the years we have lost many old friends who were replaced by new ones. These are not the only changes. Looking back over the past four years in high school, we can re- call many changes: our school, our teachers, our activities, our in- terests — all have changed. But we have progressed steadily toward our goal. GLENDA LAMBERT JANE McREYNOLDS SANDY MILLS BILLY MUSICK Our Senior Year has been an enjoyable year of fulfillment, climaxed by graduation. It has been a profitable year during which we have studied Chau- cer ' s England, Newton’s laws of motion, the national elections, the Pythagorean theorem, and brief forms in Shorthand. It has been a busy year — selling candy, attending basketball games, working on the yearbook, serving countless meals, taking part in forensics, practicing the senior play, and getting ready for graduation. To our parents and teachers we are most grateful for helping us to achieve this goal. We hope we may be worthy of their confidence by continuing to pro- gress in our chosen fields because it is not finished; it is just begun.
