U£e JoJor Ji of mCan In a demanding society the fundamentals of individual development are beset with what we term the complexities of living. Total development encompasses all of man ' s physical, mental, social, and spiritual attributes. When this development takes place in a society permitting freedom of thought one man ' s judgement of another varies in terms of his own knowledge and understanding. Simple courtesy on the part of some is interpreted by others as weakness, the willingness to assist those less fortunate without expectation of personal gain as unreality, humbleness as lack of fortitude, and a genuine concern for the future of mankind as non-coincidal with a fixed destiny. Still, the knowledgeable interpret these basic relationships as the characteristics of truly great men. In our relationship one to the other we must first face the realization that man is not an entity unto himself. Mere existence is accompanied by a force and a power beyond that which is human. Progress comes about through doubting the impossible and through forceful action following mental catylization of natural law and man ' s vision. To this end every man contributes something to his own station and to his own worth. The strong are strong because the weak are weak. Those who understand do so because others do not. Man ' s great challenge is in that which he has not attained but hopes to. Those who succeed do so because they really believe, and failure to them simply motivates another approach. Man ' s innate drive and his acquired knowledge properly applied make for success. Formal education as we know it is absolutely essential for total growth. Education, when coupled with the basic developmental factors of one ' s culture, including simple manners, respect for others, understanding, un-revengefullness, that which is non- cynical, the recognition of self -capability as well as self-limitation, all of these things, well balanced and apparent, truly denote the worth of a man.
